I have never heard of it either. I know that my Yorkie sometimes lies down in that position (but he is not a puppy). Did someone say it to you or did you find the info on the Internet?

Yeah you should discourage the dog from sitting in this posture. Its done usually when the pup is feeling hot to cool the tummy region on cool surface
cheers

Don't be worried: it is just someones dipstick opinion and a rumor someone had to start because they were bored
Just like the rumorS: RAW MEAT FED TO A GSD MAKES THEM MEAN
RAW MEAT GIVES DOGS WORMS
A GSD THAT SITS SIDEWAYS ON HIS HIPS WHEN A PUP HAS HD
EARS THAT ARE NOT UP WHEN PUP IS 12 WEEKS OLD WILL NEVER STAND WITHOUT A VET TAPING THEM
"ANYONE THAT POSTS ON THE GERMAN SHEPHERD DATABASE IS AN IDIOT " QUOTE FROM AN ALIEN NAMED CLIFFORD
Do not let pup lay like that..do not let pups and youger gsd jump off tailgates or high tables or higher planes of any object.
COCKERS LAY LIKE THAT AND THEY ALSO CAN HAVE HD ...WELL KNOWN BUT THE HAVE DIFFERENT GROWTH PLATES THAN A GSD.

always consider the source you hear some of these things from..
I am amazed at what I hear from people all over the state of Texas and in dog world...It amazes me how people who own dogs know so little facts..
Find a very reputable Schutz trainer of a IPO trainer or a well known breeder who has lots of years of awards and many good long lists of references before you believe what seems weird. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck:
Chances are it is a DUCK
