Some spots still available for a 2 part AKC rally seminar held at T.O.P.S. in Dog Training in Grayslake, IL. This seminar is designed for dogs with solid on leash obedience under distraction and owners who have little or no prior experience exhibiting their dog in companion events.
The first part of the seminar wil be held this Sunday, 7/26 from 10am to 12pm. This session will include an overview of AKC protocol for companion events, tips on successfully exhibiting a dog in rally, and a detailed explanation of all Novice class signs. All handlers will be given ample opportunity to practice each sign with their dog in a class type atmosphere.
The second part will be held Sunday, 8/2 from 10am to 12pm. This session will be held as a mock trial. Weather permitting, there will be an indoor course and an outdoor course and every handler will be given at one run each course with a detailed critique on each course. If time allows, additional courses may be set up as well.
Rally a fun, low pressure sport in which handlers encouraging their dog in the ring is permitted and welcomed. All breeds are invited and mixed breeds as well, since the AKC will be permitting mixed breed dogs in companion events in the near future. The seminar will be held by myself and T.O.P.S. head trainer Luis Vazquez. I have successfully coached clients and have competed myself, with multiple dogs, in all 3 AKC obedience and rally rings with high scores and Luis' career spans decades with experience in schutzhund, AKC, and behavioral modification. The cost for the seminar is $50 per dog for both sessions, additional dogs from the same household will be $25.
