Hi guys,
Food gets boring sometimes, I don't see what it would hurt, everything in moderation.
I use more American cheese than anything.
Lightly wetting dry food helps sometimes too.
Lots of things to could add to break up the boredom.
If thats the reason they are not eating well.
Post some pictures sometime.

Moons.

Cottage cheese is good for dogs.  I feed Royal Canin, and my dogs love it.  I also condition my dogs to eat.  I measure their food, feeding twice daily, and set it in to them.  They have fifteen minutes.  If they stop eating, I take the food.  If any food is left, that is their next meal.  When that food is gone, I start with the original amount.  My dogs know to eat when the food it set down.  By being able to control their intake of food, I can always control their weight.  Feeding this way, it is never a problem to put weight on a dog(barring medical problems), for they will eat whatever I put in the pan.

If you are free feeding your dog, they can become picky and difficult to control their intake.  They can eat anytime, so they never really get hungry, which effects their puituitary.

Cottage is the best source of calcium    it is required at my kennel...all pups start with cottage cheese and yogurt in their puppy food at least once a day....I switch it back and forth...

I also when pups are home and settled and have bonded and eating good., start the extra virgin olive oil and the  Krill oil , or salmon oil on food... omega threes are most important....

I put a little hot water, not even enough to see it and use your hands to mix.....REASON:::   Gets the smell of the master in the food.....dog always knows his master made his food....this is started the minute the pup comes home...you hands are better than forks and knives and God made them before he did the utensils....ALso I use the ground to feed or the kennel floor or the concrete floor....Teaches dog to hunt , put nose in ground and  God made the ground before he did the pan...Some trainers dogs get only what goes on ground in the days tracking for their meal that day.....Throw the pan in the closet for trips ...

Always feed dog in kennel and under no circumstances let wander and not eat when given.....if you start this as a pup   the pup and dog know it is time to eat....most germans want to play,,,root around, hunt and are easily distracted with noise, smells and anything but eat....causes you a headache later.....You can start adding raw meat a little at a time to interest your gsd...all things new add tiny pieces a little at a time..

i would think cottage cheese is good, also yogurt.  just be sure its low fat... fat causes cancer. and very little at a time, high protien bad for kidney's especially elderly dogs. also to much calcium..could cause problems too?? like everyone says moderation.....

Low fat in foods processed is not good ...Gsd need fat in their body and any thing processed that is diet or low fat has been processed to remove any thing that is useful ..Might as well feed sticks.....too much calcium is gotten by giving pills not food.... Calcium in supplement form is useless as it hardens and can cause kidney stones, can calcify in the kidneys and the digestion system...and bone joints..

Yes High protein is dangerous in most any dog...many people think the 32 % protein in a lot of high priced dog foods is great for their dog...not so...can burn the liver out and because most dogs do not work 30 days a month., no need for high protein..of that magnitude. during a work week or a trial dog, you adjust the diet per se....

raw foods provide the vast amount of what a dog needs....adding vitamins and extra supplements is sometimes dangerous..you must evaluated the foods plus the environment you dog lives in...If he drinks Chlorine water , you body is needing more probiotic to keep the system in level digestion..there is so much to learn about feeding us and our pets.

Fat  causes  Cancer????

American Cheese is not cheese, at least in the traditional 'Separate curds from whey and then pack the curds' cheese-making process that, y'know, actually makes real cheese. That's not to say that there isn't real cheese in American cheese. There is. But the cheese is also processed with emulsifiers, preservatives (sometimes something as simple as salt, other times with various chemical compounds) and often food coloring. These additives are what make defining American Cheese so difficult.

Has very litte nutritional value and has colorings in it....Full of enzymes and has taste enhancers in it to taste so good...on a grilled cheese sandwich...real cheese comes in a block and not thing single sliced imaginary stuff.....FDA says cheese processes only have to be  52% real cheese  ..the rest is yuky stuff..  Why do Americans like American cheese....it tastes good..

If the dog gets bored of eating don't feed him. My dogs have no choice I put the plate down for about 20 minutes and if the not done (according to them) well they will be done (according to me). When my fiance moved in with me her female was a picky eater, not just picky but eat a little bit well I changed that my rule was in full force for a month. Now she eats everything and is done within 20 min. Because she understands that if she is not done she might not get anything else today. Since she been with me for over 5 months her eating habits improved, she eats more than ever, and she finishes everything every time.

Cottage cheese, yogurt, are all good supplements to a dog food, but I would not do it on regular basis. Everything in moderation balanced is achieved over time. Raw eggs is another thing that I like to add, as well as salmon oil, but everything in moderation and never because my dog is picky eater, the more picky they are the less of a choice they will get. Olewo carrots is another thing that I would highly recommend. Very good on dogs coat and pigment, natural remedy for warms. Good luck.
