Much harder to get good ddr working as opposed to Czech working dogs IMO. DDR typically more bone, larger heads but can come with some baggage. Much of Czech lines came from ddr in the 50's, but Czech continued to work and breed their dogs for true work, while the ddr lines weakened greatly after the wall came down. Many on this site have more history and better information on this than I do, but no one seemed to be responding so this is just a readers digest version.
Personally, the dogs that I have really appreciated are ddr/czech lines crossed. If you get the best of both, you can have a great working dog. I am talking work, not sport. I have seen several dogs that came out of my dogs sire and dam that were top notch workers with solid temperments, the type of dogs that you would have as much confidence in for working as any you will see. Hope you get some that can offer more info for you. They definately can be more civil and easy to train to the man, not equipment.

Czech--you get some prey drive and a little nerve so you at least have something to work with. The good ones are very nice dogs.
DDR--Garbage
I know I just offended olskool

Again this is limited knowlege. I was never into GSD's so never paid attention to bloodlines until the last couple of years.
I have worked one dog that was predominatley DDR that was worth a shit. I liked that dog ALOT! One in over 10 years (that I know of cuz like I said, never paid attention).
So for whatever that was worth........

Now if you really want to know the differences I see in the two. Czech dogs dont handle stress all that well. They can be worked through it usually but it takes forever. DDR dogs handle stress much differently and can be worked through it much quicker. Czech can be sharper depending on the breeding and DDR are usually more territorial. It takes a lot more pressure to bring out defense in a DDR dog. This is just my personal experience. I have lately seen more west working lines that catch my eye than DDR or Czech and Ill take a decent Mali over any of them.
