I am looking for scientific data proving how bad menadione (fake vitamin K) is for dogs.
If any of you have sources they can send me I would appreciate it. I'm not looking for sites like the "Great Dane Lady" and such as it must be scientifically proven to be a hazard to dogs.
I want to take it to a meeting but I need more scientific back up.
I appreciate everyone's help.
Thanks

I would just do a search on it if I were looking for you and then I would give you the results I found.

Yes , and I was one of the first to bring this to the database about a year ago...do not know if you can pull up my postings or thread about this awful injustice to a bag of dog food...I spent weeks after my partner, in the Houston Schutzhund club, who had a member that paid for a Menadione research paper, and passed it around and they all began weeding out the dog foods with menadione in them....does not need to be in any dogs food....for what unearthly reason...dogs dont bleed out and cats are not related to a German shepherd...? do not know why someone said Cats need it...good feed your cat all the chemical you want...it is a chemical/ The first dog food to hit the garbage can was SAMS CLUBs OWN EXCEED ...LAMB AND RICE AND CHICKEN FORMULA EXCEED. THEN A LOT OF OTHER BRANDS HIT THE PILE...IN 10 MONTHS SOME OF THE WELL KNOW BRANDS REMOVED IT ,,,AS MANY CONSUMERS MADE MAJOR NOISE ABOUT IT...
MANY STILL HAVE IT IN IT......
hERE IS ONE OF THE lINKS i POSTED...BUT THIS IS NOT THE FORMAL RESEARCH AND i DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO MY 25 PAGE ONE..http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=menadione It took a lot of reading labels to find foods without it...that is why most of Jeri ;s club feed raw and one of their members drives to Austin to buy the homemade formula a dog breeder there, grinds and prepares frozen raw dog meat and sells it to many area people...by the roll....
Until dog owners force these FOOD COMPANIES>>>>AND SOAP COMPANIES that bought out the dog food programs and are lying to us about what is in the bag, sameO same0 and the Cancer and liver and kidney and pancreas failures get younger and younger in our sd...

this is one of my favorites. it gives a list of ailments caused by menadione, lots of references you might want to check out and also the other names by which menadione is called.

Thanks for the link to the dog food project. I found some information on her site, like the name other than menadione "dimethylprimidinol sulfate" and did a search on this name. Surpise what I found.
FYI
Watch out:
Source The Dog Food Project http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=menadione
Some manufacturers leave out the "menadione" part of the above chemical names in their ingredient lists (e.g. you see only "dimethylprimidinol sulfate" listed instead of "menadione dimethylprimidinol sulfate"), and menadione does not only occur in dry and canned foods, but edible chew toys, supplements and treats as well.
Thoroughly research any item with an ingredient list that claims a "source of vitamin K", "source of vitamin K activity" or "vitamin K" in parentheses and contact the manufacturer if you have any questions.
Here are some well known products that actually include dimethylprimidinol sulfate which is the same as Menadione they just drop this off the front of the name.
Many of you, I've noticed use K9power products and sadly "many" of their products have dimethylprimidinol sulfate in them. Go look online http://www.k9power.com
do a find on their pages as most of their products come up with this fake, dangerous vitamin K in the ingredients.
