Hi all,
What would you pay for a 6 year old spayed female that is titled SchH3? A friend of mine is looking at a female in TX and wanted me to post the question on here. Thanks in advance!

I ask about 500-800 bucks for my retired females. And if the shipping is more than 250 dollars I give them a little discount. I just want to make sure that the dog is going to have nice retirenment.

$1200 - $2000.00 depending on the female for a retired SchH 3 as usually at this point the dog is being purchased for family protection. However, Fliescherhiem Kennels sells theirs for $5000.00

6 years old and spayed. the dog should be free. let the poor dog go to a good home. why should anyone pay $100s or $1000s for her. Poor dog she needs a home!

Free to qualified family.

If she is being sold to continue competing or learn additional work as a PPD, then I think a price is fair but if the dog is being "retired" I would say free to a qualified home, or maybe ask a fee of $500 (to weed out people that are not really serious or suitable) and possibly just give the dog for free.

No dog should be "free" to any home unless you absolutely know the person.
Even adopted dogs from shelters have "value"........there are fees for adoption.
People tend to treat "free" as "worthless"............totally appauling to me.
It takes a fair amount of time and finances to have any dog, (male or female) titled to the level of ScH3.
I personally would charge aprox $500....to place the dog......
Maybe even give the buyer the option to donate the $500 to a local shelter..?.......whatever "feels correct" at that time.

Paying/charging for an animal does not guarantee it will be cared for or have more value. I have been a professional in the veterinary industry many years, long enough to know this all too well. I took responsibility for treatment of a registered 2yr old Maine Coon, she had been purchased for $800.00, the wealthy owners found her medical condition "inconvenient" and were going to let her die. She has been our much loved companion for over 7 years. $$$ does not guarantee love or commitment. There have been many other similar circumstances. Look at the shelters, there are many purebred dogs... somebody paid for them at one time, did not guarantee a commitment did it. I am not recommending animals just be given to the first person offering a home, but references and screening are far more reliable than $$.

My opinion was based on experience also.........I too have been in the "Veterinary Business"..past..(vet assist/surgical assist) for 5yrs.......and the breeding/showing business as well.
ALL potential homes should be properly screened......and yet......the shelters & rescues are still full.
We have "placed" several dogs (at no charge) in wonderful, loving homes.........we also have had to "rescue" dogs from people that no longer want their "pets" because their "no good" anymore......and yes, they got their dogs for free or little money....from newspapers and bybs, etc.... These same scrupulous "pet owners" decided they were going to buy a "thoroughbred" dog from expensive breeders...(don't ya just love that term?!).......made us want to puke.
EVERYTHING in life has value........this is my point.
NEVER would I NOT place a dog in a loving, caring, responsible home, if need to..... over a $ profit...........
Hope that clarifies things.
