This really sucks - maybe we could all send them 20 bucks a month to keep from killing all the critters.....................

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deval_Patrick  just another heartless liberal democrat!

The Franklin Park Zoo, a Boston landmark for nearly a century, may be forced to close and euthanize up to a fifth of the animals in its care due to devastating budget cuts.

New England's largest zoo and its counterpart, the Stoneham Zoo, saw their state funding cut from $6.5 million to $2.5 million by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, the Boston Globe reported, and expects to run out of money by October.

Zoo officials said they would have to lay off most of their 165 employees and find new homes for the more than 1,000 animals they currently house, the Globe reported. Those they cannot relocate — at least 20 percent, officials estimate — may have to be destroyed.

The Zoo's director is now calling on state lawmakers to override Gov. Patrick's decision, which he made with a line-item veto of the legislature's budget. More than half of the zoo's funding comes from the state.

The Franklin Park Zoo was founded in 1913, and along with the Stoneham Zoo, draws about 570,000 visitors annually.

"This is just another bad decision on budget cuts,” Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino told the Globe. “It's a great resource for the community. The zoo is an inexpensive place to spend a day in tough economic times."

Not fair for the animals is it ?? They should have rescues to take them . I watch animal planet and see alot of private people and org s. will take them .

by SitasMom on 11 July 2009 - 21:07

well maybe you can contact the all those private ogranizations and set thigs up, since the paid employees will be laid off in the next few weeks and months and either will not or cannot do it.

what do you think? are you willing to get on the phone and spend hours and hours to set up foster care all of these animals.

once you set ups a place, then you'll have to set up transportation.

every animal will have to be checked by a vet before it leaves.................

the cost will be in the houndred of thousands.....if not the millions.... to save every one of these animals

wuzzup, i think it would be great of you to take the lead................are you up for it?

Where can I send my donation? It will have to be tax deductable of course.

I have a grip!

Iraq war funding has VERY little to do with our present economic issues

Uncontrolled government groth and uncontrolled government is the issue.

Clinton, Bush and Obama are ALL to blame.................

1 trillion on a war we did not need to fight was a bargain.

by SitasMom on 11 July 2009 - 23:07

we did need to fight it, but your brain is just too little to understand it

but you might want to ask all the domocrat senators that agreed and even insisted that we fight!

oh, but we don't want to remember all of the facts, just bitch and complain about what the totally bias media want you to remember..............

Oh good grief - is everything partisan - considering the past decade has had a majority republican congress...........

But wasn't it a Republican administration that emptied the mental hopsitals on the streets and when "homeless people" became an "ok" sight in big cities?

I tried to think of a good analogy of Obama's goodwill babble as our economy sinks. This is what I came up with.

Imagine tens of thousands people in a auditorium listening to Obama speak. He gives a fantastic speech, and almost every one is mesmerized. Then the people in the back and the top tiers of the auditorium smell smoke. Someone mentions it to Obama. He tells everyone not to worry, that there is some smoke, but his staff has it taken care of. He continues with his soaring rhetoric.

Then the smoke smell is overwhelming, there is even some smoke in the building. Once again Obama tells everyone to stay calm, everything will be fine.

The people in the back start to tell everyone that we need to leave in an orderly fashion. Now. Before it gets worse. Some try to leave, but the doors are locked.

Now the people in the back start to panic. They realize the doors are locked and there is smoke and this could be deadly.

Still, Obama talks in soothing tones and tells everyone that everything will be fine.

Now the building starts to fill with smoke. Almost everyone is in a panic now. Some are trampling others trying to get out. But there are still those at the front who look adoringly at Obama, believing all he says, and just can't believe that there is any danger.

That's how I see it. Smoke is all around us. Half a million jobs a month have been lost since the stimulus passed. Unemployment at 9.5% is at a 26 year high. This doesn't take into account the full time jobs that have become part time jobs. David Rosenberg, former chief economist for Merrill Lynch, reported that in June 2 million workers were pushed into part time work and that the average work week reached a record low of 33 hours. If work week hours had remained the same as they were in May, June's job losses would have been a shocking 800,000 decline.

We need to do something to get out of this, but the doors are locked by a Democratic Senate, House, and White House.

The time of warning is over now. We need to break down the doors for people to get out.
