I'm glad they investigated further and made the right decision instead of just standing behind the officer no matter what bad decision was made involving a gun and lethal force no matter if it was a dog or a person involved.

This PO deserved to be fired and that is still not enough , I also hope that the owners will pursue Civil Actions against him and the Dept.
Plus he should not be allowed to be a PO or carry a weapon at any time, or even have a weapon permit.

Don't get too excited yet...

Around here, in a town of only about 6,000, our local sheriff's department has begun dressing like stormtroopers, combat boots included.  They tasered and killed a man who wouldn't get out of a car at a gas station...Never mind that he'd just gotten out of the hospital after a heart bypass operation and could barely move.

They shot and killed a man who robbed the liquor store at the mall...smaller than most Walmart stores, this mall is, and the guy was armed with a stick.  Very dangerous, needed to be shot.

The list goes on.  Bob's right, too many of these guys are bullies with badges, and they don't have a clue what the responsibilities are that come with that badge...They think they're above the law.

The po is the scape goat for the dept! He was simply following what his leaders told him to do! the dept said it was within dept regs to shoot the dog so why blame the officer ! This is shooting the messenger because you do not like the message! Certainly the po should have used more caution yet he was serving an arrest warrant  and his superiors told him it was ok to shoot animals who presented a danger to the officer. Irreguadless of the caliber of individual it is the dept that issues the mandates and hires those irresponsible individuals! The officer was not at fault the dept was for issueing such a directive and for hiring that individual! Sue the dept! The police dept trains these morons to carry out the depts justice

Perhaps they need to ask people if there are any animals in the home before they enter, as they feel so threatened. If so they can tell them to put the animals outdoors before they come in. The shoot first ask questions after Mentality has got to GO.

Raymond, they may be told that it is okay to shoot a dog that is presenting a danger, but come on.  Everyone is given common sense ( I think) and they should  use it.  This dog was no threat, and the officer knew that.  You can't blame his superiors for the officers lack of brain usage.
