On USA's home page it states under AWDF Scorebook Changes it states:

"If you have a breed other than a German Shepherd and elect to get a scorebook from USA, the breed will be recorded in the score book as, "Mixed Breed"."

This is ridiculous.

If you have AKC/CKC/or SV registration papers with any breed, and you are USA member you should be able to get a USA scorebook. USA is giving away one of their historic income making opportunities to AWDF. Our current Treasurer, President and Al Govednik are in conflict of interest with AWDF.

Why do we care if AWDF changes their scorebook policy??? Before this week AWDF required their scorebook to enter their national championship....that was it. Period  Now they are highjacking our scorebook program.

In the longterm USA's membership will take a hit. At the local level, no longer will new club members with any breed other than a GSD be asked to join USA.

Here is a link to the complete explanation:   http://www.germanshepherddog.com/documents/2009AWDFScorebookChanges.pdf

After reading the complete text, it looks to me like this was what those breed clubs who are members of AWDF  wanted.  I believe the reason is because there are now so many different registration organizations, (not just AKC anymore) the member breed clubs wanted to be able to control the breed designation on  scorebooks.  Keep in mind this only applies to breed clubs that are AWDF members.

You can still get a USA scorebook even if you have one of the effected breeds, it will just say "mix", which is really no big deal, no one uses the scorebook to verify what the breed is anyway.  Maybe rather than "mix" USA should write "unverified" which might be more accurate.

Also where do you see that USA will no longer be requiring individuals who join member clubs not to become individual members of USA?  I can't find that anywhere.

Diane,

I am an alternate breed owner. USA is first and foremost a GSD club, a breed club.

How can USA verify the correct pedigree on any breed other than GSD?  The AWDF breed clubs need to grow, obtaining scorebooks  is a way for them to grow, if people don't care if their dog is labled mix in USA trial..then they can obtain a scorebook from USA for $15, or pay the $15  from their respected AWDf breed club and  get their AWDF scorebook stamp from USA or any other AWDF breed club for $5.

AWDF has grown to 15 clubs along with a guest member. The second largest Sch organization DVG has joined in the last few years. Recently NARA the French ring club has joined. The AWDF CH has and will continue to grow as one of the premier SCH trials in the US.  Especially since it is know a qualifier for the USA/WDA world team.

I don't think USA membership will be affected, alot of the AWDF breed clubs ...their  "local clubs" are still too small..they train on regular training nights at  USA/DVG clubs.  Majority of the USA/DVG local clubs require their club members to join their respected organization.

Sue,
You and M are absolutely right. The claim that this is in any way detrimental to USA (or a conflict of interest by USA officers) is utter bullshit. There is no downside to this. In fact, the USA clubs with members who have alternate breeds also "win," as, assuming their non-gsd members are enough to form an affiliate club to one or more of the other breed clubs, they open up even more trialing opportunities for their members. Some USA clubs already have affiliation with AWMA, USRC, UDC, etc. and hold trials sanctioned by those organizations. It can expand the judges the clubs can have judge their trials. Supporting the other breed clubs does NOTHNG to undermine USA. It is a win-win for everyone.

I can't wait for the Dutchies to form their own breed club and join AWDF.

The Working Dutch Shepherd Association is coming along will soon be a member of AWDF.  We are just waiting for some paperwork to be filed and we are set to go.

It could be a big deal if you want to go to the AWDF or a breed championship. It may also have a huge affect in the future. Your best bet is to get a scorebook from your breed club.

If you have AKC/CKC/or SV registration papers with any breed, and you are USA member you should be able to get a USA scorebook.

And you still can; but it will say mix in the scorebook.

USA is giving away one of their historic income making opportunities to AWDF.

USCA is not giving away anything. They are doing the what is right and fair. The other breed clubs need income also. In exchange USCA gains stronger breed clubs in the AWDF. If all of the breed clubs are strong it helps ALL of the working dog world. Anyway, now USCA gets income from stamping all the scorebooks coming from other breed clubs.

Why do we care if AWDF changes their scorebook policy???

Because USCA must follow the rules of the AWDF, just like all of the other breed clubs.

At the local level, no longer will new club members with any breed other than a GSD be asked to join USA.

"asked"? You mean forced don't you?

USCA is doing the right thing here. I know that change is scary to a lot of people but change happens. Lots of people were pissed off and scared when USCA became a GSD club and restricted members that did not have GSDs. But most of those people have gotten over it and started new clubs and working dogs in the US are better off for it.

Diane does USCA's decision make more sense to you now?

From UScA

Scorebook Price Changes
E-Ballot #13-09
Motion by Sean O’Kane, seconded by Sara Wallick, to approve raising scorebook certification fees to $10 for USA members and $40 for non-USA members.

Background: Currently we charge members $5 and nonmembers $20 for scorebook certification. The following motion passed at the AWDF General Board meeting.

All AWDF score books must be acquired from their specific AWDF member sport/breed club with the exception of the sporting clubs (Mondioring, LV/DVG, etc) in order to retain the breed identification in the AWDF score book, otherwise the breed ID will be listed in the AWDF score book as MIX BREED.

The scorebook certification fee increase is proposed to offset the potential loss of USA members with breeds other than German Shepherd Dogs due to the requirement they must obtain their scorebooks from another AWDF member club. This will encourage those showing in local USA events to become members or continue being members with a minimal extra expense versus being a nonmember paying the higher scorebook certification fee.
