My objective is two-fold: first, I only eat egg white omelettes (cholesterol issues) and we throw away the yolks. Second, my dogs love the occasional raw eggs I feed them with their kibble and so it would be killing two birds with one stone if the yolks would help them - or at the least not harm them. I do give them the crushed egg shells with the raw egg.
If giving the yolks would not be a problem, my next question is how much is too much? My male GSD is a voracious eater and I have to limit how much he eats. The female is a fussy eater and literally starves herself if she is fed just kibble so I have to mix it with a little something (I usually use a little ground meat). She does love it when her kibble is mixed with an egg.

The formula for new pups that need supplimenting,,if Mom has not milk,,and you do not have pet formula commercial is one egg yolk. added to the goats milk, 1 tbs white karo, water equal to milk content, shake and refrigerate....not a thing wrong..
.just make sure fresh and yard eggs are better for everyone.

Yes, my question is whether it would be safe to give the dogs just the yolk mixed with their kibble. My understanding is that the egg white contains an enzyme, avidin, which affects the absorption of biotin which, in turn, can have adverse effect on a dog. The yolk, OTOH, does not have avidin and on some sites it is suggested that the yolk neutralizes the effect of the avidin from the egg white. The yolk is mainly fat and contains the cholesterol which is why people are advised to limit their egg intake - but I also understand that the cholesterol is not a problem for a healthy dog.
Moons, why do you say that one should not feed the yolk by itself?
In the ultimate analysis, giving my dogs a whole egg each is not a budget-buster but if the yolks that we discard can be safely given to them then it would not need to be wasted.
