This is an old topic that I have seen fit to bring back........

I'll start it off with the last post that was made........from Melissa!

I'm hearing of a lot of dogs not getting the ratings that were expected from OFA over the past two years. I know that when I sent in my girl's she got a fair rating which really shocked my vet (he's also an orthopedic vet). He really expected her to get a rating of excellent. With my permission, he called OFA to discuss it and was very dissatisifed with the conversation. So much so that he took his extra set (he'd made extra's for office samples to use at the office) to 2 other vets both orthopedic. They were all very surprised that she only got a fair rating. I've heard similar stories from quite a few folks including a couple that got mild ratings and had penn hip done later that passed. From what I'm hearing in my area, it's not just with GSD's that they are getting odd ratings.

I hear you on that Melissa,
I'm going to start submitting my x-rays to the SV from now on, I got the same answer on one of my females
that her hips looked good and OFA said mild, the doctors that looked at them knew what they were doing, and had
years of experience  taking and reading  hip x-rays.
Someone on here said OH---what are you going to do, show people the note from the vet saying she has good hips,
yea, I sure as heck will, OFA just may not be as accurate all the time as one might trust them to be, luckly we have Penn-hip and the SV and just plain old ordinary vets that may have years of experience under their belts, who have their own valuable opinions, I always get more than one opinion, and you can't count 3 different vets at OFA as 3 different opinions cause they work for the same organization.

I have heard of & know someone who submitted their x-rays to OFA and asked for them back and if they didn't get the rating they thought they should waited and re-sent the same x-rays and got a different rating.

Paula are you submitting the xrays that OFA gave you a "mild dysplasia" rating on to the SV?  If so, it will be very interesting to see what result you get, especially if it is the same xray.  On my male I got a rating of "good" on hips and "normal" on elbows, but I was still going to submit the same xrays to SV, but unfortunately when we moved  my DH packed up the xrays and sent them to our storage in another state, so I have to wait until I get back there!

I have only ever used OFA, but I have not sent anything to them in over 3 years now. I need to get a rating on one now and am nervous about OFA. I have never submitted to the SV before. Can anyone give me details on how long it takes to get results back from the SV? I basically just joing as a member and then I can submitt the x-rays, correct? Are photo copies of registration papers allowed or must they be THE originals?

Will the SV rate an AKC registered dog?

The SV does not accept x-rays from individuals from US. I just sent mine to the SV through  www.gsdca-wda.org.
and you do need the ORIGINAL registration and an ORIGINAL 4 generation certified AKC pedigree. If your vet does digital x-rays those need to be converted to film.

You can also go through United Schutzhund Clubs of America, here is a link to the "a" stamp program:    http://www.germanshepherddog.com/breed/a_stamp_program.htm

I recently sent x-rays to the SV through USA, it has not been a good experience.  First, I submitted them to USA prior to the Seiger Show.  There they sat until after the SS, because USA all but shuts down for anything non Seiger related.  Next:  I sent a credit card number so the SV would evaluate the elbows as well.  Because of the two month delay in submission, I had cancelled that credit card before it ever went to Germany.  I then gave the SV a debit card number and waited....and waited...........and waited.

A friend from the board had to call the SV and offered to ask about my x-rays.  She was told that they were done but in limbo because "the club" had not paid.  I had bank statements in hand when I called USA, my card had been charged, the check to USA had cleared 7 days after being written in March, (the work embargo seemingly does not extend to cashing checks) the SV got the elbow money 5-11-09, and this conversation took place in late June (three weeks ago).  USA first told me that they do not pay the SV, then they transfered me to the person in the office who knew what was going on.  She informed me that the SV has USA credit card numbers and run them every week.  After USA contacted the SV, I was told that my results would be in that weeks packet.  USA was then to send them on to me with my original documents.  Three weeks ago, and still.....waiting.  I am sitting here now, after having worked all night, waiting for the magic 10 am hour when USA will answer the phone so that I can once again try to find out where my results and documents are.

In this same time period, I have had three OFAs come back, including one resubmission.  Dr. Keller has been very helpful, easy to reach and very honest about what the OFA wants.  In addition they were able to fix a major snafu with just one phone call.

I do not know what the WDA is like to work with, I would hope that it would be a better experience, but right now I cannot say.  What I can say is that, in my opinion, the USA office really let me down on this one.

Wow, that truly sucks!  So does this mean they still  have your original registration documents too?

I am STILL waiting for my dogs USA/SV registration - 3 years later!!!  I have given up, (I guess the monies my breeder paid for individual registration can be considered a donation at this point) but I don't forget.

Yep, they still have everything.  And now they tell me that it has not even left Germany yet.  This whole deal sucks.
I know of another person that never got registration papers, yet they tell us on the BAC that the whole backlog has been cleared.
Oh Sara, we miss you.
