Apparently there is a cemetary for animals just outside of Paris and he is buried there.  I hope you enjoy the links.

I get very annoyed when I see stories about the real Rin TIN TIN...there is a woman here in Texas who claims to be the niece or granddaughter of the owner of RIN TIN TIN and she is continuing the blood line in its origianal blah blah blah...

She sells her pups without breeding rights, fine...but she spays or neuters them herself,,,and the pups I saw in Tyler that man paid  $3,500.00    for at 12 weeks old looked like something you picked up along the road with no bone no structure,,long skinny face, and looked  skinny and no pigment........one of my pups owners called me from Sonic and said  he just talked to this man with this   RIN TIN TIN pup and how the great line of bull  went...

I do not ever want my pups or my reputation to have gotten in that condition...and to sell a pup for that amount of money and tell people it is a RIN TIN TIN descentant thru frozen sperm or any such story just eats my dignity....I do not want to heae any more of it.makes me want to puke.....

..and I just warn people...if it looks washed out and long skinny and lanky....please look elsewhere for parents before you fall for the line of BS.  I do not know what the true story of where or how or what RIN TIN TIN is or ended up...this woman in Texas was featured in DOG FANCY several years ago..and has a website you can read for yourself....

Wow, not really sure where that came from Yellowrose....it's a story about a Pet Cemetary, not a breeder of illegitimate Rin Tin Tin claim-to-famers.

Whether Rin is actually buried there or not, it's still a nice story.

Of course, the current Rin Tin Tin doesn't  resemble current breed standards. Ms. Hereford's one goal for breeding is to produce a dog that looks as much like the original Rin Tin TIn as possible. If you read the webpage, Lee Duncan chose light sable dogs because they showed up better on black and white film, thus the 'washed out' pigment.

Ms. Hereford is a member here and has come on the board a few times to defend her dogs. If you trace the pedigrees, which are on this site, you will see that the current Rin Tin Tin is indeed a descendant of the original. Although the Rin Tin Tin progeny aren't show dogs, many take part in obedience and agility. At one time the Rin Tin TIn kennel supplied guard dogs to a security firm. Ms. Hereford also donates pups to be trained for the Rinty For Kids foundation, as special needs service dogs.  All pups are health and temperment tested, and up to date with vaccinations and worming before going to their new homes.

Lee Duncan trained over 5,000 war dogs for WWII. If I were American, I'd be happy to know someone was carrying on his legacy.

I can't say I find health testing and the application of vaccines and worming to be exemplary....it's minimum care, not bragging rights, if you ask me.

Every GSD is a "descendant" of a small handful of dogs from the 1890's. That does not make them all equal in quality.

I would think that every time someone trains a mentally sound, courageous GSD to serve this country, they are carrying on Mr. Duncans legacy- regardless of who the dog is "descended" from.

If her puppies really are $3500, I'm sorry to say that's highway robbery and anyone who pays it is a fool.

edit: for some reason I cannot access rintintin.com?

I noticed the site was very slow to load yesterday, then when I tried going back later, I couldn't get in. They must be doing some major work on it.

Yes, I know vaccines and worming are minimum care for a responsible breeder. Just trying to show the kennel is far from being a BYB/puppymill as some have accused it of being.

Sure, these dogs will never win conformation titles, but neither would Lassie. He's oversized, and IIRC, the white ruff that goes all the way around his neck is frowned upon in the showring. But the last time I logged on to the website, there were videos of the current Rinty being trained in obedience, agility and tracking. And, of course, as a dog that's going to take part in lots of public functions, he's very thoroughly socialized, and taught how to behave when surrounded by crowds of people, loud music, etc.

And yes, that's a huge amount of money for a dog that's going to be 'just' a pet, but if Ms. Hereford were just in it for the money, she'd be cranking out a dozen litters a year instead of just one or two.

I grew up watching the series Rin Tin Tin every afternoon. I own every copy of that series and watch them from time to time. Some are a bit corny now but the childhood memories of that amazing dog impressed me to no end. I didn't know anything about breed standards at the time and don't claim to be an expert on anything but you must agree the dog(s) were well trained. As for the Kennel, the link provided is an article about one of the siezure dogs bred by Rin Tin Tin Kennels.

Wonderful article! Thank you, thunder9!

BTW, one of the members on this board had her GSD alert her to her breast cancer, and very likely saved her life, because his constanly nudging her breast prompted her to have a mammogram done. He also alerted to her father (or father-in-law's) prostate cancer by nudging him in the crotch.

My late GSD, Tasha, was constantly poking my husband in the privates. He said her accuaracy was amazing. She always seemed to touch very gently right on the end of his penis. I've often wondering if she was trying to alert him to  the bladder cancer which eventually killed him. He had two internal examinations (cystoscopes) done, and neither one found the cancer. By the time it was diagnosed, it was too late to do anything.

Actually those dogs at that kennel have nothing in common with the original Rinty especially in body and mind. Lee Duncan was not the not breeder of Rinty and when he had a litter by him he openly admitted that the son he chose to carry on was not nearly the dog his sire was. The structure of Rinty was more like a Malinois and on par with other GSDs of the time. The dogs from the Rin Tin Tin website and kennel of today have more of a resemblence of American showlines than anything else IMO. There will never be another Rinty and any attempt to carry on those "bloodlines" is only sentimental at best and at worst.......financially motivated. However......how much someone charges for pups is up to them. If they can get it then more power to em. Also, Rinty was a darker grey sable not lighter. Future Rin Tin Tins after the original were lighter in color. The second Rinty looked more like his sire but after that they changed dramatically. I dont think most remember the original because he was only in silent films I believe.
