Has anyone out there had any dealings with this man (David Buss) of "vom Wieratal" kennel name? I would appreciate any information available. Contact me privately, if you wish.
A friend of mine has bought from David Buss the female, "Canny vom Baerellern" http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/597897.html. After receiving the money by wire transfer, David Buss allegedly failed to return emails and phone calls, forcing the buyer to enlist the help of someone else in Germany to pick her up, approximately two weeks later. The helper noticed that she was unsteady on her feet and took her to the veterinarian, where x-rays and reports show that she has severe spondylosis to the neck area. She is therefore apparently suffering damage to the spine and spinal cord, and is in bad shape.
I have NEVER heard of spondylosis in a dog at this location (neck / collar area) and never at such a young age (2.5 years), so that I am suspect that this is a training injury, perhaps involving force training. I would appreciate any opinions on this matter. The seller, David Buss, allegedly said that the matter should be referred to the breeder as a genetic defect, thus avoiding any claim by the buyer, from whom he received several thousands of dollars, without disclosing the existance of any problem, and for which he denies any responsibility.
I was not a party to this transaction, but helped my friend to find the bitch and seller so that she could buy her. I probably should not get involved, but I hate to see such an unfair situation for my friend. She is now forced to pay someone else to care for this bitch while she waits an eternity for David Buss to do anything to resolve. The helper in Germany says that he is doubtful that Canny is even able to make the trip here.
It is also alleged that this bitch is a "spinner" in the kennel, and I mention this only because it may have some impact on the problem, however I have seen many spinners and never with this kind of an outcome of that habit. I am highly suspect of the possibility of rough training methods, such as "hanging" or "lynching" which might cause damage to the neck. Can anyone think of any other possibilities? Again, I have NEVER heard of spondylosis in this region of the spine, or at such a young age.
While we can speculate as to the causes, I feel that it is fairly certain that it is highly questionable business to sell a dog or bitch for a high price without disclosure of serious health disorders. All of this happened in such a short period of time, from the acquisition of Canny by David Buss, to her titleing, to her sale, and somewhere in-between, her crippling disability. I doubt that he knowingly acquired her with such a serious problem, or that he sold her without knowing.
