DDR x Czech Workingline Male -- 13mo old - Page 1

Felt like showing off Raven, my DDR x Czech workingline male. He's just over 13mo now.



This picture shows two things:
-- He's matured nicely IMO
-- I really need to mow the lawn.

I'm looking for some opinions on him. He's a long stock-coat with a very thick undercoat. He weighs in at 96lbs/ BTW, I generally wind up being my own handler and photographer in the stacking photos, so it takes a bit of time to get a good shot, though I think this one came out quite well. Wow, 96#.  The photo does not give the impression that he is that large.  I never seem to have that kind of luck with pictures.

I think he is gorgeous! He looks like he is ready for action.  Nice expression.  Enjoy him. 

I love this dog . I have a fondness for black coated dogs . He is the best of the best .

Right now, my plans for him are a personal dog for area-guard, item-guard, and tracking. 

I'd like to finalize him in area-guard to protect the house and car, and item-guard to keep an eye on the kids. It was actually the kids I was thinking of when I held him back in the litter: he's got the most stable temperament, mellow nature, and yet has no fear of anything. He's the perfect "sleeper-dog" -- the sort that can loaf around, and go from 0 - 60 when needed.

He's already mastered window entrance and exit of vehicles for inspection, but I have to warn people when they come to visit: "roll up your windows or he will check out your car." I've also been teaching him a bit of tracking. I take him on base for "inspections" of the barracks. It helps him work on his search and detection bit in interior situations. That, and it generally causes the service members in said barracks to act smartly for the next several days *lol*

I may or may not breed Raven, there's several variables I'm mulling over; not the least of which are what his adult hip scores will be and his final size. I like big dogs, but I don't need monster GSDs.

I'd rather just ice his dad's guys, and use that because his father has excellent credentials as a former Border Patrol and Para-Jump dog. His father's original handler was KIA. Cezar is exceptionally stable, clear in the head, and very people-friendly when not in work mode.

It takes a LOT of time and practice. I actually prefer to take pics solo, if only that way because I can tell what looks good, and what does not; and I can use a small table to get low enough so that I'm not getting top-shots of the dogs. Digital cameras are great. I set it up on a 20-second delay to take a 5-shot row, and repeat that several times.

Usually I get a 1/20 ratio of usable shots vs. pics taken.
