So I have been juggling the idea of having Ocean tattoo'd. She will be microchipped at 15 weeks (she's 11 weeks now). I have heard different things about tattooing. Her ears are errect and strong and I was told NOT to tattoo because of this (they could fall?) I have also been told that I should tattoo for good measure. What is everyone elses views?

Thank you in advance for you input!

Tiffany

Do you think someones going to steal your dog?
I don't like to micro-chip mine that young.
Tattoos are done all the time at eight weeks

I would do the chip, but much later.

Is it still ok to have her tattoo'd? I'm worried that her ears will fall, or damage.

Chip I can wait on, the vet recommended 15 weeks.

My vet likes to wait longer but they all have different views on everything.
A tattoo is only good if it can be identified.
Registered as is through the SV.
My German import was tattooed and registered in Germany.
His ears are fine.
Private tattoos sometimes are hard to track down, and later can be hard to read.
I would want it done by someone experienced with the process.

How can I find an Experienced Tattoo'er?

Maybe a club or breeder in your area.
I noticed you posted on both forums......  I chose this one to respond too.
It can get confusing.

haha, yes it does. I know some people don't respond to the main one and some don't respond to the German Shepherd one so I posted in both! haha.

Thank you very much. :D

I know I would rather have the micro-chip than the tattoo just for practical purposes.
Most vets and shelters have scanners these days.

An after thought,
Micro-chips can migrate even if they are done correctly, good reason to wait a little longer.

The needle for the chip is so large, I micro'd Jami when I did her OFA prelim. while she was tranq'd.
Always,
Cee
