I just heard this news on Long coats and the SV
It seems the SV has decided that a Long Coat with an under coat there is no reason to ban these dogs from breeding, and these dogs should be able to be shown and korung in the future. BUT, they cannot be mated with regular coat dogs,
Long Coats must be mixed with Long Coats
Long Coats without the undercoat is still a fault that does not allow these dogs in the breeding program
I heard this on very good authority, but not yet offical, or an official paper

Could you let us in on who your source is? When and where did the S.V. make this decision? If you could more information would be appreciated.

It´s official in the SV since the last "Bundesversammlung". It should start at the beginning of 2010 with seperate rings in the shows and the Körung.
Greetings from Barbara and her longcoat Drago (Xander von Fidelius) http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/533935.html

Your Drago is a very handsome dog. Will the long coats be treated as a seperate breed or just a different variety?

If 2 long coats breed and product a regular coat, how will it be registered?

I did mention about the SV accepting Long Coats around 4 to 5 months ago, and i said it would possibly happen in June this year, it seems it might have, but i will not say where i get my info from for it is not needed for any one to know
Plus Til has very much confirmed what i have said above

Regards the Long coats breeding a normal coat of course they will but no coat lengh goes down on pedigrees, and there is nothing to hide anyway.
What the Pups come out with that is it. Goran was bred from two Normal coats yet he is a long coat but with an undercoat, but i guess it is in the breeding lines somewhere but could come out or it may not thats the way i think anyway, Remember only the double coated Long coat is breedable so for sure you will breed some normal coats from them

There won´t be shortcoated progeny from two LSTH, as the gene for long hair is recessive. If a dog is longcoated, he just has two alles for long hair, so he definitely gives only the longcoat gene to his progeny. Dogs who have a longcoat- and a shortcoat- allel are phänotypical shortcoated but may give either the shortcoat or the longcoat allel to their progeny. That´s the reason why you can get LSTH out of STH parents.
That is a simple Mendel Rule of the dominant and recessive heredity.
I hope, you can understand what I mean. It´s a bit difficult for me, as English isn´t my native language.

Til, you were crystal clear! Thank you!
When a long coat comes from two short coats, will it also be allowed into the long coat book?
Next, what does it matter, they are all german shepherd dogs?
