I m looking for a GSD puppy with a suitable temperment to be trained and used as a service/compainion dog for my son who is a para. We are planning on doing the training ourselves with help from professional trainers. Hoping to find a breeder in the Midwest. Any suggestions on lines or kennels that woud be better suited for this? Any input would be appreciated.

Buying a puppy is more gamble if you have not then look for 16 months to 2 year old by that time dog has almost grown up and you can see his or her temperament . Good lock

Euroshepherd, we did consider going with and older pup/dog for exactly the reason you posted. But this was a dream of my sons while he was in the Navy (hes still active duty waiting discharge at home). We had shepherds when he was growning up one of them  purchased from a friend  who bred their female (don't know lines). Best dog ever.  When he was injured and paralyzed he thought he woud not be able to realize that dream. We told him not true he would just need a dog with skills in order to be with him at all times. Hes 23, newlly injured so is still learning his capabilities 5 months post injury.  The care and training of the pup is up to him we will be here to assist. We are also planning on using professionals for help. Knowing that one has been chosen and awaiting her arrival has done wonders for his moral and motivation. So she is already a working dog and not even here yet. It has also sparked an interest in Schutzhund (did I spell that right) in him. If heaven forbid it doesn't work out she doesnt have the right temperament for a service dog she will still have a home with us, we will find some thing she likes to do and we will try again. Wish us well.......  dmom
