Hello, all,

Little Annie Oakley is coming home tomorrow, which is June 23!!

I'm going over tomorrow to meet Steph and bring little Oakley home.  I can't wait, I'm so excited!  I just hope I can sleep and not be a washout tomorrow night.  It's going to be a big day for little Oakley, and for me, too.

I'll take my camera, and post pics just as soon as I can, but it may not be tomorrow night.  There's likely to be a lot to do when I get her home.  But I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks again to all for the good wishes on this little girl.

Well, I wish Crys lots of patience with this little spitfire, she is a talker too. When I was talking to Crys on the phone last night, Oakley was talking up a storm, telling me all kinds of stories about her day playing in the yard...LOL...and her wanting her dinner, NOW!!!

I am really going to miss her...she is a special one all right, She knows her way around here so well, she rarely bumps into anything anymore, and her ears are coming up and down, she is such a clown. When I let her out of the crate she runs circles around your legs and has actually climbed up my legs when I put my hand behind her head...she loves to be snuggled...now she is jumping down my one back step with a flying leap!!!

Last night she flew up onto the couch for the first time...she sure gets around well...still tracking me when we are in unfamiliar territory. She will need some socialization in new areas, to build some confidence. She loves riding in the car, although almost as soon as it starts she falls asleep...

I wish Crys and her family lots of happy days with this little gal that has stolen my heart...I am also eagerly awaiting updated gowing up photos...Keep that camera busy Cry!!!!
Thanks All,
Steph

I gotta say I had mixed feelings about trying to save this puppy . I am happy it is working out for all involved . My heart was sad at the thought of it being put to sleep . Good job and good luck with it . I must have missed the post as to why it is blind ?  Will it ever see ? Can it see anything at all ? It sure looks like a nice pup !

Congrats! You will be amazed with her I am sure. My girl Layla was born blind,  it is much easier for them when they are born that way, because they dont know any other way.  I dont consider Layla disabled by any means, she does just about everything my other dogs do.  Its so neat to see them navigate out new territories, Layla will never bump into anything twice and it takes her seconds to scout out the lay of the land at different places.  Have fun with her!! You might want to do some tracking with her at some point, Layla LOVES to track!

Thanks all of you.

Wazzup, They don't know why she is blind, and it really doesn't bother me.  She's completely normal in every way, except she bumps things, and that I can deal with.

When I got her home tonight, I took her outside to go potty, and my back porch has five steps to the ground.  She was afraid at first, but I got her to put her front feet down on the first step before she quit.  Then I eased her down each step, tapping the step and saying, "Step down" each time.  THe next time we did the porch, she took each step on her own, haltingly, but she did it, and the third time she practically flew down them, though I held onto her with the leash.  I tell her to Step down and she follows the sound of the tapping.  It seemed to help her.

As for her nose...She tracked my strawberry smoothie all the way to my cup, which she then sucked the straw out of and licked the inside of the top...Very astute nose, there.

Will post pics on this and the other thread I started tomorrow.  Too tired tonight.

Thanks again for all the good wishes, Cee, DebiSue, Steve1, Wazzup, Khuda, and Luvdemdogs...It means a lot to me.

Crys
