9-11 GSD Cloned - Page 1

I don't know what to say about this one...

The dog was a great one, for sure.  But his genetics are only a small part of what he was.  Training, socialization, life experiences...These puppies won't be the same as he was.  You can't clone memories.  And you can't relive a life exactly the same way twice.

It makes me wonder what people are thinking of when they go for this stuff.  The dog may look the same, but there are too many variables for it be anything more than a pale imitation of the original.  I'm sorry, but no matter how much I love a dog, it, like me, has a limited time to be on this earth, and when the time comes, the natural conclusion of life is death.  I'd rather remember my loved friend, than to play God and try to duplicate him or her.

I don't want to get into a discussion of ethics and all that.  Let's just suffice it to say that cloning anything, dog, human, sheep, whatever, is bad news, in my book.

And if I may, cloning is creepy and unnatural.

Does it say the COST of cloning a dog?  Because I've never heard of it being less than 100k, and that is just wrong, that money could go to help so many dogs, or people.  No dog needs to be cloned, even if they are great, there are always more out there similar enough.

I was on there website no price is given! I dunno if it a good or bad thing though cant make up my mind!! would be interested to know will they all grow to look and have personnality exactly like the original think that might wierd me out a bit!!

I agree with what Crys said.  Also the article said that in 2008 the dog was ravaged w/multiple diseases.
Since all of the pups are clones does that mean they will eventually meet the same fate as Trakr?

The article said the value of the cloned pups was at 300K, and they did the cloning as a prize to a contest they held. If you want to clone one yourself the price tag was up to $144K.

I think some diseases might be attributed to breathing the air at ground zero of the 9/11 site. If that's the case I don't see why they would affect the pups. The unknowns will be longevity of the pups. I think I  remember cloned "Dolly" the sheep was considered "aged" before her time.

I think it pretty odd that the officer was on the 9/11 site while on sick leave. Changed careers because of it, (tried his hand at acting instead of LEO) after moving to the US. He's kind of out there in left field, if you ask me.
