I have been told you can hear them during the last couple of weeks, but I have never been able to! Ultrasound is I think much more reliable for checking if they are Ok...more $$$ though!

I only had success hearing fetal heart tones in the last week or so of pregnancy. And I had better luck hearing them along the flank of the bitch, not on her belly. I guess due to positioning, I couldn't hear them every time I listened. So I would add that it had no diagnostic significance whatsoever...but it was fun! jackie harris

i have used a baby --prenatal heart listener, and it works great .
i picked it up at goodwill for $5 .
best thing for picking up heart beats , but you still have to wait till 55 days is when i can really hear heart beats.
i can hear then at 52 days but not quite as clear.
