I am wondering if anyone is using software to keep track of their K-9's training.

If  so, what software are you using?

If you don't use software what types of records do you keep and how are they organized?

If you were to use software to keep training records what information would you want to keep?

Just trying to do some research to find the best programs out their to better the existing one we have or to build on it and need to know how in depth training records are in K-9's sports and in Law Enforcement work.

I have found several Law Enforcement programs but I feel that they may be something better than I know about.

If you want to e-mail me the information my e-mail is

schmalzgsd@aol.com

P.S.  Law enforcement feel free to share because I am an Officer for a Sheriff's department.  Like I stated above, I am doing the research  to find the best programs out their to better the existing one we have or to build on it.  This is why I have added my e-mail.

Would this be of any help?

Or this one:

No personal experience with them.

As a tracking journal I just use little notebooks.  You can get really nice ones, cool-looking yet compact, for very little money in the Bargain Books section of Borders (and I'm sure in other places).

Otherwise I just use my calendar in MS Outlook and record things on there.  You can put something briefly in the "Subject" slot so you see it when viewing your calendar, and if you want you can put details in the big space that appears when you open it, or else if you write in the "Location" slot those words appear when you print it out. (I'm sure you know all this already.  Sorry - I just finished working with non-computer folks in getting them up & running).

Of course, as a Sheriff's Officer you would probably need something more professional, so I hope those sites help.

To answer your other question, if I did use software I'd like to keep (besides health, breeding, vaccination, etc. records) brief notes of problems and progress and of each thing tried.  Over time you could see where a dog got hung up on certain areas of training, and as an officer keeping records for a department you'd be able to see if maybe all the dogs tended to hang up in the same areas, then that might be a question of how it's being taught.  Same for if your dogs all seem to learn a particular thing with great ease - what are you doing that maybe other depts. aren't?

- when problems are solved, what was it that worked?

- any change of diet should be noted

- any unusual things about training that day, even the weather.  Not listing the weather for every day, but if you trained in a driving rain and how the dog did, or if it was 104 degrees and dry as dust, etc.

I Used K.A.T.S for several years and if worked great . You can keep training records, equipment and vet cost and cover all areas you and your department needs.
