Unmuzzled pit bull attacks two dogs in the Toronto Beaches area:
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/torsun/090607/canada/dogs_on_mend_after_pit_bull_attack
"Within minutes of the attack, police arrived and tried to Taser the pit bull three times but it seemingly had no effect, so they fired a shotgun blast at it on the driveway of Maria Camera, who has lived on the street 29 years.
"Everybody was shaking," Camera said, pointing to the dark spot on her driveway where the pit bull died.
Camera said after the pit bull was shot the first time, it appeared to lift its head as if trying to get back up. That's when police shot it a second time, killing it."
Pit bulls have been illegal in Ontario since 2005. Those that were allowed to be kept by their owners under a 'grandfather clause' must be muzzled and on a leash when out in public.
(No, I am not in favour of BSL, but I hope the cops throw the book at the idiot owner who allowed his dog to be running at large!)

In the case of a big dog like a Pitt, one that is in the act of trying to maim or kill, then I understand the actions of the officers. This is justified, if the Pitt can't be gotten off the other dogs, and if it poses a danger. But the tiny little Chi on the other thread...Couldn't have done nearly the damage that a big dog could, especially one bred for fighting like the Pitt has been.
Before I get jumped on for this statement, I'm not saying that all Pitts are bad. I've met a few that were very nice dogs. But I've also met many who were not at all nice dogs, not with people, not with other dogs.
