What constitutes a PUPPYMILL to you? How often the dogs are breed? How many females they have? How many dogs? How many pups in a year? Just asking...........I am very curious. THANKS!

Palerider,
You just need to GO AWAY as you contribute nothing of value anywhere!

To me a puppymill is a commercial breeding program, ie the point is to make money, not better the breed. In between I think most are BYBs (to me), people that may have good intentions but don't actually know what they are doing. I don't really care for the difference. Either you are a reputable breeder or you are not.

Palerider -- I don't have a clue who you are. I also don't have a clue as to why you joined the Forum and immediately go into "attack mode" -- not arguing an issue, but instead making "Personal attacks." Apparently, you have "an ax to grind" about something. Why not just PM the people about your issue w/them instead of bashing them on the Forum.
What is the point of your posts ??

A puppy mill is a business and profit is their only motivation.
Five or fifty makes no difference, they use the animals and care not about them as living creatures, only their margin.
The caring is the difference.

In a puppy mill; the bitch is the assembly line and the puppy is the product. The manufactuing staff puts minimal into the process and expects maximum returns. The the assembly lines are minimaly cared for and if one breaks down due to neglect, it is replaced with another model........
I prefer back yard breeders over puppy mills- if the BYB does right by the dogs......
good food, clean environment, good dog(s) to begin with, Hip and Elbow certs, vet care, proper training and following the advice expert breeders for mating partners....
Unfortunately there are too many people who care not for dogs and just care for the money they get.......

A puppy mill can be any size breeder, from the person with one bitch to the big commercial operation with a full time staff and full time veterinary care. What makes a puppy mill is not how clean or dirty their circumstances are, nor how many dogs you have, but what your ultimate goal is. If their goal is to make as many puppies as possible and therefore make as much money as possible, with little regard to the emotional and/or physical wellbeing of the dogs being produced and the dogs producing them, then it is a puppy mill. They come in all shapes and sizes.
And 'palerider', instead of hiding behind your anonymity and personally attacking members of this board, why don't you come clean and tell us who you are, and where you are? You've attack Two Moons and Shelley, that I know of, and it's getting really, really old. Two Moons posted pics of his litter just like everybody on here does, and we love to see those puppy pics. If you have an axe to grind, why don't you take it elsewhere? With regard to S**t bred dogs...please show me the pedigrees of these dogs and show me why, in your humble opinion, they are so bad. While you're at it, show me the pedigrees of your own world class dogs, along with their OFA or SV hip certs, their earned titles, etc. If you can't, then it would do you to stop insulting others.

Sounds like a good definition to me SitasMom, CryBucks25, yours is good too. Someone who wants to produce dogs to better the breed; place them in good, appropriate, researched homes; backing up the breeding; willing to help the new owners with any and all questions; and it doing it because they have a clue about the breed and what is required to produce good, healthy, workable dogs is not a puppy mill. Money should not be the end result of a breeding, good, healthy, workable dogs with good people should be.
