Hello I am trying to find where I can purchase the 4 main psuedo drug scents. The economy has definately taken a toll on me and can not afford $30+ for each container when the shelf life is so short and they are used infrequently. I am also searching for a place that can certify my dog even if he is not working with a specific dept. Everywhere near me has someone they go through but all are working directly with a P.D. Thank you all in advance and I appreciate any information one can lend. Amanda

Were are you located?  The owner of the kennel I work at works for POST and he can get dogs POST Certified.  I don't know how much he charges but can ask if you are interested just PM me.

Why not train with someone who has a DEA license and forego pseudos. They are out there but I don't think many people think highly of them and certification testing will require real substances.  I am not sure how you proof against the non-drug components which would be the bulk. Is there a "blank" pseudo?

Plus, how are you going to work past the threshold issues of pseudo being only small qtys? They need to train with large qtys as well in order to work out the overhwhelming scent pool and not alert at the threshold.

I do the training for my department. We start the dogs on pseudo. We purchase it from Sigma pharmacutical. I agree with the other writers once the odor is imprinted switch to the real substance. You can get your certification through I.P.W.D.A.
International police Work dog Association. Hope this helps

Shafferhund, if you train for your PD why start with pseudo?   If you have accesss to real dope why use pseudo?  Our K9 unit only trains with real narcotics.  We have secure lockers and are issued our own training aids.  When it comes to court testimony I can testify that my dog has only been trained on the odor of actual narcotics.

Nancy, you are correct.  I've seen dogs walk past several lbs of weed in a box and not indicate because they were only trained on grams.  The overwhelming scent of several lbs confused them.

I just would like the certification for him. I do not work with any P.D. this is my personal dog but would like to get started with him on narcotics work for me to learn. We have done other scent identification work and want to see his capabilities as well as my own. He is a breeding male and I would like to see him pass all of his traits to offspring and with him being certified for narcotics detection makes him more proven. I use my personal dog as a learning tool for myself and I do hope that once he is certified I can contact local P.D. about using him. My issue at this point is that since we do not work with a P.D. nobody really wants to use him because he is my own dog. . . . Thanks again for all of your help. Amanda
