E-verify would curb the hiring of Illegals and would give jobs back to people who can legally work in this country - but the Obama admisistration want to make it harder for Americans to get and keep jobs.......
My son has been turned down from 14 entry level jobs so far this summer, because he doesn't speak Spanish..........He's tried everywhere - car washes, bagging and stocking , lawn maintenance - they don't want a white boy when the can have an illegal..............

While the administration took steps last week to undermine the program, signs of support for E-Verify were evident in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) introduced a bill on Wednesday, June 3 that seeks to reauthorize E-Verify for five years, through the end of September 2014. The bill also contains provisions that would reauthorize three separate visa programs, including the controversial Religious Worker Visa Program. (See H.R. 2679's Legislative Text, June 3, 2009; See also USCIS Benefit Fraud Assessment, July 2006). However, the portion concerning E-Verify is practically identical to H.R.6633, legislation that passed the House of Representatives last year by a vote of 407 - 2. (See H.R. 6633's Legislative Text, August 1, 2008; See also FAIR's Legislative Update, August 4, 2008). The House Immigration Subcommittee had originally scheduled consideration of the new Giffords bill for last Thursday, June 4, but this markup was postponed to a date to be announced.
E-Verify is a proven, successful tool operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration. It allows employers to quickly and easily check the work authorization status of their new hires. According to DHS, the program has an impressive accuracy rate: "About 99.6% of all work-authorized employees verified through E-Verify are verified without receiving a tentative non-confirmation or having to take any type of corrective action." (USCIS Fact Sheet, January 8, 2009). In early May 2009, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that more than 122,000 employers were enrolled in the program, with another 1,000 signing up each week. (Testimony of DHS Secretary Napolitano, May 6, 2009).

Administration Delays E-Verify Rule for Fourth Time; House Subcommittee to Consider Reauthorization
The Obama Administration announced last week that it would delay - for the fourth time - the implementation of a rule requiring most federal contractors to use the federal E-Verify system to check the work authorization status of their new hires. The rule is now set to take effect on September 8, 2009 - nearly nine months after the original effective date.
The delay of the E-Verify requirement comes as special interest groups are challenging the rule in court. Led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a coalition of special interest groups sued the federal government in December 2008 to prevent the final rule (issued by the Bush Administration) from taking effect on its originally scheduled implementation date: January 15, 2009. The Bush Administration caved to the special interests, and, in January, announced that it would delay the implementation of the final rule until February. (See FAIR's Legislative Update, January 12, 2009). The Obama Administration has now postponed the implementation of the final rule three additional times and has used the same reason each time to justify the delay: "to permit the new Administration an adequate opportunity to review the rule." (See Federal Register, January 30, 2009; Federal Register, April 17, 2009; and Federal Register, June 5, 2009).
While the administration took steps last week to undermine the program, signs of support for E-Verify were evident in the U.S. House of Representatives. In spite of the program's documented success and popularity, recent efforts to pass a long-term E-Verify reauthorization have stalled in the U.S. Senate. (See FAIR's News Release, July 29, 2008 and Immigration Issues, April 2009). Earlier this year, the House added a five-year reauthorization to the stimulus bill, but the Senate did not pass the same provision in their version of the bill and Congressional Leadership then stripped the reauthorization during conference committee. (See FAIR's Legislative Update, February 17, 2009). Then, in March, Congressional Leaders agreed to reauthorize E-Verify for another six months, through the end of September 2009. True immigration reformers are concerned that recent short-term reauthorizations have left E-Verify vulnerable to proponents of amnesty using the program as a bargaining chip the next time Congress debates a massive amnesty bill.

What a shame. I live in AZ and it has been our law since 01/01/08. In the last 18 months I haved probably hired around 75 people and have only had 3 come back with the tentative non confirmation. When this happens that person has the option to keep the job and contest while continuing to work, or sign the form to not contest. All three of mine did not contest since you have to go the SSA. Can't do that if your ID is fake obviously. It absolutely works. I love it. No more nightmares over INS or ICE when before the e-verify a person was still only following the letter of the law. The only drawback here is that any disgruntled person or consumer can call Sheriff Joe's hotline and even annonymously say "oh my god, a mexican works there and I don't think he is legal". Then beware the hounds of hell. That's right I said ANNONYMOUSLY. Anyways, other than that it is a perfect set-up.
Really? He was actually turned down cuz he doesn't speak spanish?? That is awful.

Where is INS when you need them?

yep, in Texas, you get a job quicker and for more $$$ if you speak spanish.
it is hard for a teenager in school or right out of school to get an entry level job. its just as hard for people with degree's. you must speak spanish if you want a job.
its sad but true.

Immigration Stabilization Act, Harry Reid: Against illegal immigration, before he was for it!
Powerful Democrat Calls Illegal Aliens ‘Free Loaders and Scam Artists’
John Lillpop Bio

By John Lillpop Monday, June 8, 2009
Most liberals regard illegal aliens as “Undocumented Democrats” and a veritable gold mine of opportunity for holding on to political power by coddling to those here unlawfully.
For that reason, most Democrat politicians have abandoned patriotic concern about homeland security, the rule of law, stability of the American economy and social order, and preservation of American language and culture.
In fact, one can search high and low for a liberal with a patriotic, pro-America stance on illegal immigration, and that search will usually be futile.
But there is a notable exception: A U.S. Senator who has shown remarkable wisdom, foresight, and clarity, especially for a Democrat.
His office released the following statements (in bold) concerning illegal immigration:
“In response to increased terrorism and abuse of social programs by aliens, (I) today introduced the first and only comprehensive immigration reform bill in Congress. Currently, an alien living illegally in the United States often pays no taxes but receives unemployment, welfare, free medical care, and other federal benefits. Recent terrorist acts, including the World Trade Center bombing, have underscored the need to keep violent criminals out of the country.”
The senator’s bill, titled the “Immigration Stabilization Act,” overhauls the nation’s immigration laws, and calls for a massive scale-down of immigrants allowed into the country. The bill also changes asylum laws to prevent phony asylum seekers.
The senator said the U.S. open door policy is being abused at the expense of honest, working citizens.
The senator continued:
“We are a country founded upon fairness and justice. An individual in real threat of torture or long-term incarceration because of his or her political beliefs can still seek asylum. But this bill closes the door to those who want to abuse America’s inherent generosity and legal system.”
“Our borders have overflowed with illegal immigrants placing tremendous burdens on our criminal justice system, schools and social programs. The Immigration and Naturalization Service needs the ability to step up enforcement. Our federal wallet is stretched to the limit by illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care, and other benefits often without paying any taxes.”
“Safeguards like welfare and free medical care are in place to boost Americans in need of short-term assistance. These programs were not meant to entice freeloaders and scam artists from around the world. Even worse, Americans have seen heinous crimes committed by individuals who are here illegally.”
Specific provisions proposed by the senator in the Immigration Stabilization Act include:
* Reduces annual legal immigration levels. Relatives other than spouse or minor children admitted only if already on immigration waiting lists and their admission does not raise annual immigration levels above approved level.
* Reforms asylum rules to prevent aliens from entering the United States illegally under phony “asylum” claims.
* Expands list of felonies considered “aggravated” felonies requiring exclusion and deportation of criminal aliens. Allows courts to order deportation at time of sentencing.
* Increases penalties for failing to depart or re-entering the United States after a final order of deportation order. Increase

* Increases penalties for failing to depart or re-entering the United States after a final order of deportation order. Increases maximum penalties for visa fraud from five years to 10 years.
* Curtails alien smuggling by authorizing interdiction and repatriation of aliens seeking to enter the United States unlawfully by sea. Increases penalties for alien smuggling.
* Adds “alien smuggling” to the list of crimes subject to sanctions under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
* Expands the categories of property that are forfeited when used to facilitate the smuggling or harboring of illegal aliens.
* Clarifies that a person born in the United States to an alien mother who is not a lawful resident is not a U.S. citizen. This will eliminate incentive for pregnant alien women to enter the United States illegally, often at risk to mother and child, for the purpose of acquiring citizenship for the child and accompanying federal financial benefits.
* Mandates that aliens who cannot demonstrably support themselves without public or private assistance are excludable. This will prevent admission of aliens likely to be dependent on public financial support. This requirement extends to the sponsor of any family sponsored immigrant.
* Increases border security and patrol officer positions.”
What sort of a Democrat would take such a politically incorrect--but morally and legally correct--stance?
Perhaps the Democrat with a brain is Zell Miller from the great state of Georgia? Or could it be a reincarnation of Alabama’s late conservative firebrand, George Wallace?
The answer: None of the above!
Harry Reid: Against illegal immigration, before he was for it!
In fact, Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) introduced the Immigration Stabilization Act in the United States Senate in 1993. The statements quoted above are from a press release issued by Reid’s office on August 5, 1993.
How is it that Harry Reid was exactly right 16 years ago, but is so completely wrong now? Why does Reid oppose programs he once sponsored now that the problem is seven times greater after 9/11?
In the spring of 2006, while the U.S. Senate was debating legislation to make English the official U.S. language, Reid even saw fit to drag out the R word to slander those who supported the English bill.
And, of course, Reid has voted for Mexico and against America every time the U.S. Senate has considered amnesty.
Harry Reid: Against illegal immigration, before he was for it!
Why?

Ah, the anchor babies. Not only coming across prego but getting here and getting knocked up ASAP. The more the merrier. The better chance to stay should you get caught. The e-verify is such a novel idea. Not too long ago I went to visit my family up in Podunk, ND and was frankly surprised to see a group of mexican men on the same flight. Now, I lived in ND for 25 years and there was no hispanic population, no Telemundo on TV. My spanish isn't great, but I overheard them talking and they were going up there to work. E-verify nips it all in the bud. No jobs, no need to cross.
No over-crowding the schools. My son's first grade class, he only had 4 friends. The only four people he could speak english with. NO JOKE. He was so upset. My daughters class that year was 50/50. We don't live in the same neighborhood anymore, but it was disturbing.
My mother-in-law had heart surgery on last friday. She kept having to put it off b/c she doesn't have insurance, and is not quite old enough for medicare. She has been putting it of for a long time, how can she pay for it? Her Dr. finally told her she has to do it or she will die. She finally swallowed her pride and went to the local DES office to see about the state insurance and was denied. She makes too much. $9.00/ hour is too much? She has never been on welfare her entire life but has paid into it for 45 years and she needs a life saving operation, and she makes to much????
But no, fresh acrosss the border with a babe in the belly gets you insurance, wic, and a paycheck.
This gov't can suck it.
She is ok, btw, put will be making monthly payments until she dies. Even had to fork over a down payment to the hospital for the DR to use the facility.

so true
in North Texas, we have classes strictly for the hispanics who can't speak english. different classes! teachers hired strictly because they speak spanish.
we also have many many other students from the far east (pakistan, india, nepal, asia) , but these children come over here speaking 3 or more languages including fluent english.

Is there no way to confine the USA-centric political discussions to one or two threads only?
First, this is a dog forum. Second, the proliferation of USA based political threads is exremely ethnocentric, given the fact this is a global forum. \Third - this part of the database was NOT constructed for OT political threads - it was generated for general dog discussions - not just GSD discussions.
