Due to budget cuts, there will be LOTS more animals PTS in California.

Sad as that is, I had to laugh (grimly) at the first person to comments remarks.
Duuuuuh, YA THINK??????

Euthanizing these animals early will decrease their chances of finding a good home. This decision will only deter their chances.

Seriously, this person thinks that euthanizing a pet early will decrease its chances of being adopted? Apparently they do not understand what euthanasia is.
The comments range from "Rescues need to step up and take in those animals' to "We kill 4 million pets a year, and pet shops (and breeders) sell 4 million a year...Adopt, don't shop". It's only a matter of time before breeding pets in that state becomes illegal.
I can almost detect PETA on Arnold's breath...What about you? Thank God I don't live there, and I'm truly sad for all the poor animals that do.
But one solution that I can think of to keep the shelters open and operating, is to deport all the illegals, and then the state would have plenty of money to keep the shelters open. Radical, but true.

This scares me, we have animals that get out in fires, earthqukes or just plain escape. They can wander into another county pretty quickly and 3 days may not be enough time to locate them. IF this goes thru, anyone tech savy to start a web site for owners who have lost thier pets and can register them on the site, post tatts, chips, etc. If the shelters have a place to go and look for owner who want them back by just entering chip # or tatt maybe they will check if it is simple and just one step. I think this is why the big push to spay, they know to many people are going to be on the streets.

Spay the politicians, and then there won't be so many people on the streets, homeless and jobless!!

How about spay the jails.
My husband went to the grocery store and a shelter worker was begging people to come adopt the animals. So very sad!

now's the time to donate time, equipment, food or money (if aybody has that anymore) to the shelters or rescues. we're in r deep doodoo in california for some time. pisses me off that they're cutting down on help for the truely handicapped and the elderly and i haven't heard anything yet about the politicians giving up their suvs or the "fact-finding" trips to foreign countries (what, they haven't heard of google?) or reinstating the tax on the toys (luxury yachts, etc) for the wealthy. people and animals are going to suffer and die because of all this. and the blame can be spread very thickly and very evenly on both political parties and the people who vote for things and forget they have to pay for them. maybe when it all shakes out, it'll be better managed? probably not..... on the other hand, we're still open to a third dog, so now could be the time....
