Hans Frietag Germany's youngest German Judge/Tom Rose from Tom Rose School for Dog Trainers/Gotfreid Dildei (DVG) author of Training with Drive/Johannes Grewe(show lines) author of Schutzhund Training the German way.I had an (SV) Breed Warden,German Shepherd Schutzhund Club director and Breeder, and (AKC) Tracking judge who was also President of (NASA) Gerhard Siegert, do a Rottweiler Training Seminar once.Whats wrong with that? Joanna Flemming Plumb has trained and competed with GSD's,Bouvier's,Malinois, and Rotts/(ADRK) JUdges Heinze Galonska and Wolfgang Gaa/Helper Martin Winkler/Martin Hellgiman/Trainer and Team USA coach Phil Hoelcher of Florida/Trainer Rudy Drexler/Trainer Sid Muray/Trainer Bil Grimmer. People I have seen whom are no longer with us are Bil Chamly/Reinhardt Lidner/Gerhard Siegert/Owen Tober/.I also watched Roman Schuler.I would have liked to watch Paul Tyson in Florida in the 70's.
As far as Commercial Trainers and Behavioural Trainers forget Barbara Woodhouse,Robert Mugford,Gloria Stillwel,Cesar Milan, and Paul Moran all together.Tom Relic/Phil Hoelcher/Sid Muray/Rudy Drexler/Paul Ciparone/John Menzies/Ed Frawley and maybe Phil Silverman and David Dykeman. For Police Dog Training Tom Brennan,Rudy Drexler/Al Mitchel/Bil Grimmer/Johannes Grewe/Gerard Thanhoffer/Sid Muray/Paul Ciparone.Reinhardt and Gerhard would be my pics if they were still alive. In Canada, years ago when Police Departments were first introducing Canines to their Force,Paul Ciparone,Sid Muray,Gerhard Siegert, and Stephen Belowos were the first Trainers to give seminars to Police Trainers,Handlers and Decoys, and the first to sell and Train the first Police K-9 dogs.Tom Relic has also sold numerous Police Dogs and Security Dogs and owned one of the hardest toughest East German Border Police Dogs,Rottweiler Codo V.Walkenbruckentor.

if you want a real List of the Bosses in this field here is THE people to look for

Here's the list of INCREDIBLY talented German Schutzhund trainers that I have worked with both in the USA and Germany. They are all World-class trainers in their own right and deserve their place in the history of great German Shepherd trainers. (Their credential change with each passing year so please forgive any over-sight of titles, BSP or WUSV Championship participation.)

Bernhard Männel - The most prolific teacher in the areas of using the dogs instincts to alter behaviors. He is the "father" of the use of the dogs prey drive to enhance the dogs ability to do Schutzhund training. Bernhard early thinking was very controversial - now it is the method used for ALL high scoring competition Schutzhund dogs. He has written a very comprehensive book that will be published (in English) very soon. He was the leading force of the great trainers of his area Fritz Biehler and Helmut Raiser. Who are THE most successful trainers in Germany (most BSP and WUSV Championships)...Fritz and Helmut. Let the record speak for itself.

We had the honor to train with Bernhard many, many times and trained with him at various clubs in Germany. He is the consummate teacher of using the dogs instincts to benefit us in our Schutzhund training.

Gunther Diegel - Gunther is now the Head Working Dog Judge for the SV. He also won the 1993 Bundessieger and has done many seminars in USA and Canada. He is a "thinker" and uses the dogs instincts as the basis for his training. He is eloquent and presents his methods in a format that can be understood by those who attend his seminars.

Reinhard Lindner - The master tracking teacher! Reinhardt's methods, patience and ability to read dogs was unprecedented. Everyone that watched him work with dogs was in awe of his "touch" with the hardest dogs in Germany. He was never intimidated by the toughest working Police dog, yet could "feel" a weaker dog and work it equally as well.

When top trainer from around the World talk about Reinhardt they simply say...he was the best tracking dog trainer ever. We considered Reinhardt and friend and mentor.

Helmut Raiser - Four time Bundessieger Champion and the World's most renowned teacher of advanced Schutzhund training. Helmut is a teacher and drives those that train with him to achieve the best that is possible with the dogs that they have. He is very analytical in his theory and powerful in his practical work. When you watch Helmut work with dogs it can be magic - he knows dogs instincts and how to transition those instincts into behaviors like a magician. Dynamic is the only word to describe his work. He was an early student of Bernhard Männel and the use of prey drive for training top scoring Schutzhund dogs.

Fritz Biehler - Four time WUSV World Champion! Three time German Schutzhund 3 National Champion (Bundessieger Prüfung/BSP). Fritz is established himself as the most prolific Schutzhund trainer in the World. He can train the tough ones...and the not so tough ones. He trains in his own style and demands the most of those that train with him; a no-nonsense approach to Schutzhund training. He was an early student of Bernhard Männel and the use of prey drive for training top scoring Schutzhund dogs.

Franz Gugnon - Two time Bundessieger Champion - with two different dogs. Franz is recognized as the imminent obedience trainer and most always makes "V" in obedience at National and International events. He brought a wealth of knowledge and was the primary reason many of the owner trained and handled dogs on the West Coast had such great success.

Helmut König - Helmut is an SV Judge and a Bundessieger Champion. He is also an SV Judge and has visited America many times, thanks to the Vollrath family in California. He brought a no-nonsense approach to "hard-core" Schutzhund training. He brought a lot of skill and knowledge to us and was a great help in guiding some to a way to higher scores and better training.

Roman Schuler - Roman was one of the top breeders and working dog enthusiast in Germany. His Kennel bösen Nachbarschaft produces MANY top working dogs and was the basis for a strong presence of great dogs for over two decades.

We have also worked with top German trainers such as Heinz Balonier, Walter Kreipl, Elmar Mannes, Jürgen Ritzi and Edgar Kaltenbach. All of these handlers have participated in multiple SV Bundessiegers and WUSV World Championships and have attained incredible successes in training and handling Schutzhund sport dogs.

I have done seminars with Joanne Fleming from Canada now for 6 years. She is excellent at reading the dog.  For her it is about teaching your dog and being fair. I have been to several seminars. I always go and watch most of the time I learn what I do not want to do with my dog. My first dog I made tons of mistakes. Thank God he was solid . I have a new pup and am happy I have Joanne.
Think about what you want to do with your dog. First of all make sure the seminar person can help you with a puppy if that is what you have. Some "high end" trainers do not do well with them because they don't start with pups. Also if their way is the only way, get in the car and leave. We all know there is more than one way to train a dog. Pick some one that will work with you and the goals you set.
Have a good time. It is not only about winning.
