So Sheila says its NOT boring, well facts speak louder than words. The magazine is losing money, the magazine does not have enough subscribers, the magazine is expensive, and the monthly magazine may soon have to become a quarterly magazine.
Magazine content lists, as printed above, normally fail to fulfill their promise, much like any anticipation you have of receiving your magazine, when it arrives it is usually disappointing.
The Breed Council need to look for a much cheaper printer to reduce costs and it needs more subscribers. It also needs adopt strict policies regarding comments and content, putting a stop to personal criticisms of individuals.
There needs to be a bringing together of people with a fresh approach for the magazine. Of course without major changes in the way the Breed Council functions there is no future for either the Breed Council or its magazine, both will simply wither away.

I cant see why Sheila has asked "member" to put this post on here. Sheila has herself posted on here before, and I would have thought was perfectly able to put the post on if she wished to.
Also, was this action going to enhance a magazine that is in trouble with subscription, finances and indeed, might have to become quarterly.
As a Breed Council Panel member - I am dissappointed that personal issues keep being bandied about rather than constructive action.
No business, no hobyy, and no club can run on back biting of any kind for long,

dont know what personal issue's have been bandied about but the bc and the magazine are not personal they are for all gs enthusiasts and not for the so called few,, that i am afraid is what is wrong the breed council is not personal nor is the mag maybe as a panel member mo can tell us why discussing the bc and the magazine should be classed as a personal matter if indeed the mag is in trouble then let us all know about it and we can try and get more subscribers and hopefully more content for the mag

Hi Jim,
Yes, I can tell you that the National Magazine is in fear of becoming a quarterly issue if things dont improve. Its no secret and it shouldnt be. You are quite right that it shouldnt be personal to talk about it - the reason that I say mention personal issues is that the post began with.......
I see that Mr Payne finds the National Magazine "boring",
I dont say this because I have any necessity to "take sides" regarding Dave Payne - I say it because its not necessary to start off the thread with a personal prod on some-one. This is the sort of thing that is leading people to say that the magazine has become a forum for tittle tattle in print. Lets get some good research based information in there about our breed, lets get plenty of information regarding problems within our breed, lets get shows, hip status results, hip status tables that used to be in there years ago in our magazine - but for goodness sake lets stop all the personal scoring of points by people who dont get on with each other - in print, - in what is a superb quality magazne for the GSD enthusiast.. Send each other personal letters if you must, but stop hanging out your dirty washing in the Mag.
I do believe that the National Magazine could cease, and I also think that some issues leave a lot to be desired. I have the Mag every month, its the only Mag that we have, and I really hope that it doesnt have to end - but with the inception of the internet, and its ease of advertising, ads in the Mag are getting less, and it needs the revenue of the ads to keep it going.
The first thread - on behalf of Sheila ends ...
It is hard to know what Mr Payne would find interesting if he were to be a subscriber, but as he is not his opinion is not really very valid,
So the thread, as well as telling us the content of the Mag starts and ends with personal comment.... It could have so easily been put on like the next post.........

Sheila and Member could have written the thread to start off with in the following way:
The National GSD Magazine needs support from everyone, and we would be very grateful for new subscribers... please contact xxxxxxx
This month as well as a few very good ads from subscribers (of which we desperately need more) the following topics can be found:
Show reports from:
West Yorks (with Photos)
Bolton & District Ch Show
Gsd Club of Scotland (with Photos)
South of Scotland ( with Photos)
Sheffield Ch Show (with Photos)
Regional News from:
North West, South West , Scotland

Readers Letters

Plus a superb colour cover submitted by a reader
We dont want to see the Magazine have to go quarterly, and understand the constraints of everyones finances, but it would help enormously if clubs could order mags for their members, more ads could be given for the magazine, and any-one on this board from home or abroad can contact me on xxxxxxx with any articles to do with our breed ......
Sheila Rankin
I would have seen the point of that. Mo - Mascani

I would have seen the point of that. Mo - Mascani

In answer to Mo:
Sheila could have written the tread to start with something different. Member would have only posted the request be it written in the same way as Mo or the way in which Sheila wrote it.( It was a requested post) due to being asked to do so as not being able to it herself. I do not wish to get into any debate on personal issues but very often as the secretary of the Breed Council she takes many comments which appear to me as personal so when a reply is made I can see why one would answer in the way she did. As far as the Breed Council Magazine is concerned I agree it is a shame to see personal issues written when the idea is to promote the Magazine. I have tried to promote the Magazine on my occasional visits to this forum although I also would like to see less of certain articles and have made this known to the editor. Maybe instead of copying Sheilas post, as a panel member Mo could have written something similar at an earlier date to promote the content of the magazine of which I think is the duty of all the panel members. My reason for wanting the Magazine to have a future is that as a vehicle for promoting the GSD in the UK I am certain with the right content it can be a success. The SV magazine is funded by the membership of the SV and not by magazine subscriptions and this is the difference between them . I never hear complaints from anyone who pays more than they do to be members of the SV than the subscriptions of the Breed Council Magazine when all that most of us do is get to look at the pictures due to not being able to read German. I have made it known before that the only way I believe we will ever make any progress is to have a collective membership where by we all pay a membership fee to our own governing body ( this can still be done by not leaving the KC) some of the proposals I have heard of, like our own Accredited Puppy scheme could be the start of this and then at a later date linking it to some form of registration. On a final note for those who think it would be easier to run a Magazine on the Internet I agree if you are sitting in front of the screen and not out working everyday ( it would suit me) but the real truth is we are not !!! and most of us take time out to quietly sit down for five minutes and pick up where we left off when we last had five minutes to read it. This could be any where, any place , any time. Short of carrying a lap top with me everywhere I go this would not be so easy. If the web was the answer then why do we have newspapers and book shops? I have been informed that this Title "UK Breed Council Magazine" should have been on another thread for this I apologize as I started of as only the messenger hence from my answer at the beginning this was not a " MEMBER" POST.

The GSD Breed Council has lost any crumb of authority within our breed it may have had. Any credibility it may have enjoyed, disappeared sometime ago. It is regarded as largely a negative influence and it stifles any real opportunities of progress. I gave it full support for many years, and I subscribed to its magazine and spent many thousands advertising in it, Videx GSD almost owned the back page for years with full colour adverts. I stopped advertising and subscribing because of the appalling editorial control. I pointed this out over a year or more before I decided enough was enough.
The content of this months magazine contains articles which fundamentally undermine our British Sieger committee, and our WUSV Clubs vital contribution in progressing our Sieger Show, written by someone who does not exhibit and is on the working side of BAGSD, which I will point our again is NOT a Breed Council member Club, but has open access to its magazine.
Another article in the magazine is about our UK SV judges (working) - yet the senior person responsible for our working side within the UK, knew nothing about it, was not consulted, so now we have another dis-jointed and potentially damaging article in the magazine. Could you imagine the SV allowing any article written by any person, member or not a member, which may impact on their policy regarding the GSD, working or show, in any kind of negative way?
The editorial control of the BC magazine is out of control, and is destroying the magazine and severely damaging aspects of our breed. It is about time this was understood and stopped.
It is clear that the Breed Council Clubs and delegates and officers, have serious issues with the Secretary and editor, and they have no idea how to resolve them, so they "look the other way" and "ignore the obvious" and "tolerate the ridiculous".
This has to stop and stop very soon if we are to begin our fight against apathy and contempt within our breed. We need to fight this before we can successfully promote the magazine, and all other aspects of our breed, show scene, working, breeding etc. I will then subscribe to the magazine, and support it with adverts and articles, and even promote it on my website.
Putting on a brave face, and failing to tackle fundamental problems will not save the magazine or the Breed Council, or our GSD Breed Show scene. When something is disintegrating the causes need to be identified and sorted out, any delay makes it worse until it is beyond saving.
