If that is the reason the leo does not use the rotts anymore, sad. If you have to send your dog, then the perp should be damaged. A good rott is a slice of heaven. I own both breeds (gsd and rott), so I have 2 slices of heaven.

I can't think of anything more painful than being mauled by a dog. I'd reserve that for pediphiles, (chew them apart all you want,) and maybe axe murderers, but not some kid making a blunder, like alot of teenagers do.

Anyway, I don't believe most of what I read on the "innernets", and especially when the writer can't spell a simple word like "domestic", LOL!

If a fair result were to be achieved, hundreds of dogs should do it multiple times, then get the averages out, and even then it wouldn't be all that scientific as every dog has the ability to control its bites.
Either way, Rottweiler, GSD and pitbull (and others) all have the ability to bite strong and hard.
My personal opinion - once the bite, say an arm bite reaches the stage where the dog is crushing or breaking the bone, as all 3 representative of the breed are capable of doing - then a few pounds up or down really does not matter.
If you feed your dog raw food and put a few bones in there, be it chicken or beef, or lamb, or venison etc... - my dog (or any GSD for that matter) chews them like I do crunchy salt pretzels and seems he is not even putting that much effort in it - it tell you all you need to know.

I remember some years back when Rotts started to get a real nasty rep, and some LE became fearful of lawsuits. Some went to the extreme of "no bite" policy, leaving the dog a real target. Law suits have made us a nation of fear, and anything that may bring about a law suit is avoided at the expense of the people.
Red Sable, I appreciate your opinions, but on this one I have to disagree. Years ago you were allowed to shoot a fleeing suspect. This was changed by the supreme court about 25-30 years ago as I recall. Today dogs are sent to apprehend, and like 1doggie2, if you run from the law, you get what you asked for. I have zero empathy for those that victumize society then run when caught. This idea that the bad guy can run from LE. cause untold problems for LE. innocent bystanders, and show complete disrespect for the whole of our society are not the people I feel bad for when they get bit. I have been bitten and it is NOT the worst thing in the world, trust me. It hurts, you get x-rayed, taken care of and thats it. I can think of many many things that make getting bit by a dog seem small. For example, a police officer getting shot while trying to make an apprehension will cause lots more pain.
I am not empathetic to those that are bitten harder and longer than necessary, but again, it is real simple. If you don't disrespect authority, if you don't victumize society, if you don't think of only yourself, carring nothing for anyone else, and if you don't run when you get caught----- you won't get bit. Real simple. Besides, some people I have talked with over the years that have been bitten while fleeing have said that they would not run again, it is a deterent. I think if my son were out breaking the law and he gets bit, I will thank the officer for sending his dog, because I want him to learn a lesson and most young men have to learn the hard way. Give this some thought, its called tough love.
