I think since we're at a Dog site, if it is not dog related, a polite OT in front of the topics would keep things crystal clear for folk who hate OT's. Keep the GSD forum pure, because one doesn't need a bunch of spam/dupe posts clogging everything. Also, it might be a thought to how many OT's you post at a time, never forgetting that this is a Dog board. My personal view of OT's is of entertainment and POLITE discussion. Personal agenda's get very tiresome.

This above, is all of course, IMHO. Oli rules this board.

Oli did mention an anything goes forum for members only. I dunno where it is though.
General will do for now ...  LOL

People do have the option to report posts, I guess we just take our chances untill we know where we belong.

General, to me, means general.  Poor Oli, tries to keep everyone happy, and that still isn't good enough.  Some people are just miserable all the time, no matter what anyone does.

MaggieMae,
You came after the events of this past winter so you missed a lot.
Just try to relax and everything will be just fine..
We've already had our fill of drama for the whole year folks, just chill out.

MaggieMae,
If you want to post vacation pictures like gsdtravels,  or jokes as many like to do, whatever, the world will not come to an end.
Just label it OT if its not about a dog and try to keep it tasteful.    Things can get ugly sometimes when people push too hard.

Enjoy the board, and you might even like a few of the posters once you get past first impressions.

now if we can only get the other 95 % of people to follow those simple little things we can all be one big happy family.

can we get a group hug in here.

This is a DOG forum, right? I believe that we are supposed to talk about dogs here. So, one forum for all general dog stuff, such as working dogs, whelping, etc., and one for ONLY GSDs. I find it hard to believe that Oli started one list up on PEDIGREE Database so that people could bash the president. Go to a political forum! Of course, most of the president bashers on this list think and argue so badly that they'd never survive a political forum.

I believe we are supposed to talk about dogs here?
We are supposed too?
Beware of those group hugs as you may get a knife in your back while hugging.
All the bitching and fighting is what changed this site, and some personal issues with Oli,  I think enough is enough.
There is something called ignore....and something that goes like live and let live.
And if you want the board to become informative again, then make it worth the while.
This particular argument was mute a long time ago.

It seems confusing at times. I agree with Moons, Beetree, and the others about making sure there is an OT in front of non dog related posts and not to make the political posts your all-time agenda. Many people are offended when a leader is singled out in a negative light repeatedly, especially if the information is not from a reputable source. An occasional mention of something your are passionate about seems acceptable. I have noted that  many people here have developed friendships: just like you would share political, economical, world news that interests you with your local friends, so it happens here and people understand. Still, many do not want to see only those types of posts.

Personally, I enjoy all the posts most of the time. The Jerry Springer-of-the-GSD-world type posts got a bit out of hand, but lets face it, they were still entertaining over the long, cold winter and could be ignored if you were not interested.

I do think Oli intended the "general topics" to be primarily dog-oriented, but to include all breeds. However, I have not known him to crack down on the OT posts unless they demonstrate malice; ostensibly for legal reasons (and probably general ethical reasons), he wants to mitigate any liability and perhaps moral injustice.
