Can you tell me if he is a long coat? - Page 1

Hi.  I'm new here.  We have a new 8 week old german shepherd puppy.  We are not sure if he is long coat or not.  His dam was a stock coat, and his sire is a long coat.  We do not know if the dam was a long coat recessive carrier.  I posted these pics on another board and  it was a mix......some said long coat, some said stock coat, some said plush coat.   What do you think?  I posted some pics of his ears....I know long coats are supposed to have ear tufts.  Thanks!

Why are you even breeding if you cannot pick out a longcoat at 8 wks old?

I did not breed him.  He is the only dog I own.  He came from a friend of mine who breeds german shepherds.  She was not entirely sure if he was long coat or not.  She's had some fuzzy puppies that turned out stock coat before.  His ear fuzz wasnt near as long as the long coat pups she's had before....so she was not sure.  I was just asking an opinion.

he's very cute! looks like he'll be a lot of fun and a great companion - congrats.  he might be a longcoat, hard to say but i think he'll end up being a plush coat, i think you'll have to wait until he losses he puppy coat before you'll know for sure - like lots of other things (size, color/patern ...) - hard to say when they are so young. but he is winsome

I think he's going to be a stock coat. Here's a pic of a long coat from my last litter:

He seems to have hairy pads on the feet . Cute little bugger . I have seen  alot longer coats on GSD pups then that one has. I think it could go either way . Not real long hiar . I never could figure the difference in opinions on what a stock coat is compared to a long hair .

I have no clue but sure enjoy seeing puppy pix.  What a doll!

Definitely a stock coat.
