Funny you posted that.  I just switched a month ago because of that.  I called Royal Canin and told them about it, they didnt seem to care at all.  I am now feeding my dogs Blue Buffalo and they seem to be doing great so far.

During 2002 I purchased my first bag of Royal Canin Maxi GSD 24. The cost (before taxes) was about $36.00. Now just seven (7) years later the same bag costs just over $56.00. That is an total increase in cost of 55% over a seven-year period .

More than once I complained to Royal Canin about the cost-they reminded me to redeem the UPC code for a value of $5.00 each. It takes the UPC code from eleven (11) bags to get the money to purchase one (1) bag.

I recenty returned to purchasing dog food at Petco rather than Petsmart, as they are not far from my current place of employment. They use a member card (at no cost) where once you purchase twn (10) bags you receive a voucher for one (1) free bag.

So, after the purchase of eleven (11) bags I obtain two (2) "free" bags. That is a reduction of about 18% per bag total. Personally I wish they would drop the marketing gimmick and just reduce the price.

They do place a lot of money towards sponsoring the annual BSZS as well as funding for other venues. One would think that such successful advertising would help to keep their cost down. Not so, I guess. I understood the quick spike when fuel costs soared as it temporarily raised the cost of nearly everything. Fuel costs have dropped, but the Royal Canin price continues to escalate.

A food I have used with good results is Bil-Jac Large Breed Select. It is just a bit cheaper as it has also increased substancially in price. To my knowledge they do not offer a credit for the UPC code as a proof of purchase. I agree that the only way to change the marketing habits of Royal Canin is to stick them where it hurts and stop purchasing their product.

Best Regards,

The costs have disproportionately gone up compared to other consumer goods.  I have always fed Innova, puppy to adult.  Over the last year they have changed from a 33 lb. bag to a 30 lb. bag and raised the price by approx. $10/ bag at least.  Tried out Canidae for a while, but ended up back with Innova.  Love the Innova, so guess we'll just have to pay the higher price.

I too have gotten sick and tired of every other month Royal Canin gsd 24 going up in price.  I decided to take a look at Costco's Kirkland brand, (it is not made by Kirkland, just bagged by them) just for the nuts of it.  I was amazed that the ingredience looked BETTER than RC. and the order of each was better in my opinion.  It was real hard for me to not see that it actually looked better.  Not being a nutritionalist, I could be mistaken, but it sure appeared to be healthier and I liked that meat was ahead of meat by products for example, as well as other ingredience.  Further, I went online to see who actually made it, and it is made by a repurtable company as I recall.  Can't remember off hand who.
Add that to the price, less than half of RC. and I am interested.

I want to say also that I take the best care of my dogs and would not comprimise their health with cheap dog food.  This simply is not cheap dog food.  It calls for the same amount or even less for a serving size (which is a good indication of quality) and my dogs love it.  Having said all that, I am a believer.  I love sending messages to those that raise prices just because "they can".
