Laying the ground work for happy and and meanful relationship
with any dog is important. You have to first train the dog of coarse.
But with any new member of the family you must understand how the
dog will effect everyone.  Working dogs in general are a high performanace
breed. Some are less forgiving when it comes to there training.  As a
puppy, your dog assumes his rightful place in the family structure. Learning the
skills he needs to fit in. What most people do with a malinois, is treat them
like something that is not part of the family, but daddy's project. I would like
to say there plenty of trainers out there with skills to help, but there is not.
However there are more good trainers than there use to be.  My point is this,
is your family safe, children and  wife from your dog? The question can be
asked about a high performance car, horse, boat, guns, so on and so on.
The most fundimental thing you have to do, is first have respect from your
dog. Than and only then can your training begin.  Your confidince will be
increased once you know where the emergency brake is on your dog. Here
is the good news, it comes from a 3 letter word, OUT.
A good working dog is not a vicious dog, a good working dog simply wants to
be part of the family. To protect and alert you in a time when there is a real threat.
Some men will say a womens place is in the kitchen. But women have proved
time after time, with dogs, race cars, guns, and horses that they are fully capable.
And they can  train a dog, any dog. Some dogs respond better to women, and some to men',
but it is far from being just a man's sport, or occupation. The basic rule of correction is
be as gentle as posible, but as firm as necessary to get the job done.

What do you think?

This is a very good post, but you may have lost most of the people
who think a Malinois should not be a family dog.  But they  are good
family dogs and working dogs.
