I want to give my 4 month old GSD puppy  fish oil supplements but I don't know how and what to give him to provide him with the Omega's and the all important DHA?

Thanks,

Dre

so are human fish oil supplements are okay or are they have to be just for dogs

I think it's easier to feed a raw Omega 3 egg three times a week.

Not all "fish oils" are the same.  A lot of people feed a salmon oil supplement, which is what I do.  I like Kronch salmon oil.  Here's a link. http://www.naturmix.com/pages/products/kronch_salmon_oil.html

I actually buy mine at a dog show so I don't have to pay shipping, but a lot of feed stores carry salmon oil, so you might want to try that.  So I haven't used that particular website, but that's the brand I use.

As for the raw eggs, I'm old school and don't feed raw egg whites because of the avidin issue.  I know a lot of people think it doesn't matter, but I just don't feed raw egg whites multiple times a week even though other people do.  I find 4 squirts from the salmon oil jug onto their food is most convenient for me.

We started our pup at 3 months with one 1,000 mg capsule twice a day. He's 11 months old now and gets 4,000 mg per day, same as the other dogs. We buy it from Puritans Pride online. We get the regular, not the coated, since one of our dogs doesn't like the coated capsules. In addition to the fish oil the dogs also get a teaspoon of Nutiva coconut oil twice daily.

I use the Grizzly Salmon Oil in a 16 ounce pump bottle.  I bought it at Pet Food Express (a great store in SF Bay Area and ???)

www.petfoodexpress.com/petfood/default.asp

I put three pumps on his raw chicken every day.  Pharaoh loves it.  He thinks it is a tasty sauce.  If I put his food down without salmon oil on it, he goes to the refrigerator and barks.

I also put a scoop of ShowStopper in his ground raw food or canned Instinct chicken.  He loves that stuff,  It has probiotics and omegas and everything else.

It is really easy and very good for punky puppy boy.

I also give him raw egg yolk (no white) about three times a week.

We also give our dogs fish oil tabs. I get the bottle at Costco. I have used it this way for years and it works very well. The dogs have great coats. I also use the ShowStopper like Michele does with her dog. The dogs LOVE it here and it really helps with their coats.
