Ok I have a female that has and looking at ads that have "Police dogs" in the pedigree (looking at a Mali female) . So my question is how do you know that they are "real" police dogs?

here is a great example: my male was bought by a police officer, trained for a few months, road the streets and then returned cause he did not have what it takes ( they have to have it all - it is a hard job) . So IF I ( was dishonest and that type of person) wanted to I could say that he was police dog and sell his offspring for more money, right? I mean what would stop me and who would know? How do you check ?

I mean Looking at this female's pedigree it looks like a impressive back line but how can I tell for sure that the dogs are what they say they are? (please don't ask what the dogs' names are as I am Not a name dropper.  This is a question across the board  not wanting to start a bashing thread :)

Any thoughts

Good morning EK, you don't know, if the dog has been tested and did not make the grade, you found a weakness in the dog for police work, find a different avenue for the dog is question that it will succeed at, then promote that. As you know each individual dog has the genes behind them to get a job done but it is up to the breeder and owner to find the right job that the dog will be very successful at. Astra was to be a police dog, she probably would have been a great one, she broke a tooth,  she had a great nose, could have been a narc dog, I bought her and she was great farm dog, protector and schutzhund athlete for me. You could have parents that are math genius, does that mean all their children are going to be the same? Just my opinion.
Always,
Cee

Good Morning Cee, I am not upset that he did not make it (little disappointed) but he is still my boy reguardless. I guess in the last few years you are see more and more police dogs being bred. While it is nice to see that they are working and have the make up/training to do the stressfull day in and day out job. It would also be nice to make sure that the dog is what they say it is. We all know that there are weekend titles in SCHH  I would have to believe there are "police dogs" that like I used as a example with my male or maybe even worse (I bought him from a police officer so he is a police dog - believe it or not I have heard this as a sells pitch :(

EK, yes I have seen this in many ads, I guess the different departments need money, so they are selling sperm and eggs now. No just kidding. The genes for a certain structure and function are in the population, so the product litter will have the potential to do police work so I guess you can advertise as such. Just my opinion.
Always,
Cee

EK, Sabin has a very nice undercoat, when he shed in the past, I collected enough to have someone knit it into a very warm scarf for me. He is such a good boy, loves to track, haul wood for me, and takes care of stray kittens.

Always,
Cee
