What keeps American Bred dogs from being shown under the SV? Can they still be registered with the SV? The reason I ask is because this dog: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/548068.html Is half amer/germ and he has a V SchH2 Kkl1. I was just wondering if this is in fact possible and if so what are your thoughts? From the website it says he got his Kkl 1 under Margit van Dorsen -Bluegrass Schutzhund Club and his V rating under WCTDTC conformation show- Dr. Morton Goldfarb.

There is no reason that they can't be shown, they just have to go through the registration process with either USA or WDA.  Chances are that many of the American line dogs would do poorly in the SV ring, so most people don't bother to register and show.

Wow! I honestly didn't know that CH. American Bred dogs can be shown in the German Style show. So it is quite possible this dog I posted is V rated SchH2 Kkl1?

by shepherdmom on 14 May 2009 - 04:05

Yes, he indeed is V rated SchH2, KKl1.  I have talked via e-mail with his breeder about a stud dog possibility, sounds like a great dog.  She does a lot with her dogs and is very active in the GSDCA and is also a conformation judge.  Here is her website.

Yes it is very much so possible.  I have had my eye on Helen Gleason's kennel esspicilly Mr. Gator for some time now.
If I'm correct a son of this dog was just show in Chicago, can't recall the placing but easy enough to look up.  For me this is the epitome of "Rock the Entry" maybe he can be my first spokes model....? lol

That's Jimmy Moses holding the dog's leash in the picture! [shakes head in wonder and disbelief...]

Wow, that's quite an achievement for an American show dog!

While I will say it is very refreshing to see a V rated, SchH titled dog with so many AKC performance titles (AKC people need to see what a working GSD is really like!), this particular dog is not my cup of tea structurally. If I am not mistaken, the grandsire Nurmi had an ad in one of my Urma books, I remember being impressed with the obvious amount of work that went into his titles. I remember Funny Altenberger Land, I think she and my girl were in the NASS working class the same year. Nice bitch.

Unless I missed something, how is this an american showline or cross?  Both parents have names that appear very German.  The dog may have been bred in the USA and have an AKC/American Showline kennel type name - but it looks West German Highlines bred to me.  Just because a dog is bred in the USA (of German blood) does not make it an "american" shepherd - at least not as I see it.  I feel that distinction is saved for the goofy looking, washed out, poor temperment, non-working dogs with the last german blood introduced many generations back.  I doubt a "true" american shepherd could ever go V in a german style show, at least I'd hope not!  If the most that most working line dogs can go in a breed show is SG, it qould be a sad day an american shepherd could get a V!  There are a number of shepherds of west german blood lines that are bred within the USA that are shown in Germany, but they aren't what I'd consider the "classic" american bred shepherd.

Wow.  That's fantastic.  A true do-it-all German Shepherd.

Calvin, what's the matter with you.  Did you even look at the pedigree of Nocturne's Navigator?  All these "very German" names??  You mean like Keylis Purple Rain?  Pinebuck's Rhodes to Victory?  Oh, maybe you meant Kismet's Heart Throb? or Jecoda Keylis Jest 'n Thyme?  (LOL).

I think he's a beautiful dog, and there's someone out there breeding for beauty AND brains AND working ability and proving it.  Good for her!

they just have to go through the registration process with either USA or WDA.

All an American-bred dog has to have to have  to enter the NASS (WDA) outside the Working Dog Classes, is AKC reg. and a 4-generation Certified pedigree, tattoo or m/chip. Under age 1, it only needs the tattoo/m-chip. The GSDCA-WDA accepts any FCI recognized registry and scorebook for entry in any event, working trial or show/breeds survey.
USA requires all dogs born in the US, or owned by/residing with an American owner, to be registered with USA, to enter a show or breed survey.
One more reason to love the WDA... We welcome pretty much anybody.
Neither org requires any recognized registration to enter a working trial. (Mutts welcome)

USA registration is a dinosaur that has out-lived its usefulness IMO. Just another expense to fatten the treasury.
