I have a 10 month old female that is not heavy boned and not a large female pup. I would say she is medium range and she started her limping around 6 months of age. Her brother also started limping one day after her (but had he had a huge growth spurt and recoverd after about a month or so), she on the other had continues to limp. The front legs have alternated several times and in the beginning I put her on Ascriptin and it seemed to work so I discontinued it and she went off for some training. Well she started up again at the trainers and she felt there was more to it and it was not pano and instead an injury or something much more serious) and insisted she go to the vet. After my approval, she was taken to her vet (whom has a specialty in orthopedics) and after check up and xray;s was told she had a severe case of Pano, put her on Deramaxx and lots of rest. She is home and after 2 wks of Deramaxx and rest, still continues to limp and my question is to those that have dealt with severe cases of Pano, what is the longest it can last. I am being told that it can stay sometimes up to 18 months. I really hate to have her on meds this whole time, but she can't just lay there and have no exercise or interaction with the other dogs

Anybody have any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance,
Debbie

recommendation:( and switched her to a RAW diet at 6 months when she had her first bout. I think diet and genetics(body structure) play a part in Pano. Onyx is long legged, now at 2.5 yrs is 27" and 95#. She isn't a large boned dog, but tall.
At least one littermate had it also. I managed it with Ascriptin as well. That way she self limited her exercise(working lines are hard to keep down!)
If you sent your pup away for training, I would be concerned about an injury or who knows what could have happened. I could never send a pup out for someone else to train, JMO

And yes, it can reoccur until dogs are 18-24 months and in some cases even older.. but it should never last that long
Sorry .. wish i could be more helpful

My Male had Pano close to 6 month had him on Ascripton and Deramaxx , I had to stop giving him Deramaxx because he got Diarrea from it.
Then I put him on low protein food after 2 weeks he stopped limping he is 16 month old now I still have him on low protein and he is doing fine.
In some dogs it lasts longer then in others, Also when I have pups I don't raise them on puppy food anymore they just grow to fast on it , I feed them Adult food with excellent results.
