Pardon me for my ignorance, but can someone tell me how to differentiate a male from female just by the look of the face of a GSD! I have heard people claiming to do that. I’ll be thankful for any knowledge in this regard, because I am clueless. Thanks.

the males usually have a bigger head ,the back skull is a little wider, but you can get masculine looking females and vice versa the effeminate male

The female's head is smaller and more slender. The male's is bigger and broader in both the skull and the muzzle. I think the difference is obvious in this picture, even though my male's head isn't as massive as some of the German showline males. It's part of the breed standard: the difference between the sexes should be obvious.

As Lief and Sunsilver said, you can have masculine looking females and feminine looking males. Here are a few head shots of mine. I have one male, the adult sable (first photo) , and he doesn't have an extremely masculine looking head in my opinion. The other three are females. At certain angles my bi colored female has a masculine looking head, as I think she does in the photo below... I think the other two have fairly obvious female faces.
I hope this helps some.         -Stacy

Stacy, yes, I would have guessed that second photo was a male.  She has a very broad muzzle for a female.

A lot of people do call her a "him" but if you look at her from a profile, do you think she looks more feminine? Well, besides the pink tag LOL... I think she does, but I'm curious to what other people think. This picture was taken the same day. She just turned 5 months, so I'm really curious to what she will look like in another year and a half.
Your male looks pretty masculine to me, very handsome face, btw!!   -Stacy

Yes, Ranger has a very lovely headpiece. I love Star's face, too. It's very feminine and expressive. I just wish she didn't have those kite ears!

Your girl does look more feminine from the side. It will be interesting to see what her head looks like when she's fully mature.

Here's a headshot of Star at 9 months beside one of Ranger. Her muzzle does look broader in relation to the rest of her face at that age.

Beauitiful dogs Sunsilver... My showline bitch has pretty big ears :-) I guess I'm used to the (usually) somewhat smaller ears of a lot of the w/l dogs...
Would love to see some others post head shots of their dogs to compare. I think it would make the thread more educational :-)

Picture 1 is Oceans Brother (Tank), Picture 2 is Ocean, Picture 3 is Ocean's Brother (Gunny) (My Picture Quality isn't nearly as good as theirs is!)
