Did anyone ever got the DNA of their dog tested?
I heard about it and I am debating in doing it or not.
I am excited about it bc I have 2 GSD mixes and I would love to figure out what they are mixed with and potential health problems etc.
Its about $50 so I guess its reasonable but I dont know.

we have a "mini-dane" rescue and would like to find out what she really is.
husband thinks she's part lab, i say part Pointer or Weimaraner.

we've thought about doing the DNA just for bragging rights............
(i know I'm right). that dog has not a bit of fetch and cannot swim to save her life)
if we found out, then our playful little debate would be over, so we haven't found out for sure yet.

DNA testing is for parentage.
 It does not specify breed,conformation,etc.
Info about DNA testing is posted at  the AKC website.
Hope this information helps and saves you some money.

Some one who  don't have an Akc gsd  has nothing prove nothing by DNA . If you don't own the Akc it is just a tool to find out what kind of mutt you have . That is what this thread is about  DNAing mutts

A friend of mine's AKC champion pit bull came back as a border collie.

I find DNA  in a purebred dog to be most helpful when they are looking at the genetic markers for both parents,
as I did have an accident between Big Head Harold >a yellow lab & Mira >a GSD, they were both Dna'ed and I sent
the dna of a puppy from that Oops litter in to AKC & sure enough, when I got his color coded DNA chart back he had
50% Big Head Harold & 50% Mira, now Mira is spayed and can hang out with Harold Big Head all day long!!!

As for checking to see what breed is in your dogs background, from the looks of it, I don't think they have perfected
that yet.

a friend of mine had this done to his pound puppy.  she appears to me to be a chocolate lab, pit mix.  the results were rottie, st.bernard and others.
