during the middle of the night emergency visit, the tech took Sita's vitals and commented that her pulse was very low and good it about 3 more times

60 a minute with 45 breaths (which is usual for her)........the tech mentioned that her heart did ------ thump, thump, thump, thump-thump, thump, thump, thump-thump......

the vet listened for quite some time and didn't seem very worried about it.

should I be worried?

I would not worry if the vet did not seem concerned. Here are the normal rates-

Heart rate: 100-130 beats per min.

Respiratory rate:  22 breaths per min.

Hope this helps.

Her high respiration rate can mean a lot of things, but it is usually stress related or heat related.  Yet her pulse was low -- not indicated by either.  High blood pressure can lead to high respiration without raising heart rate very much.  Has your vet considered bp?  High bp due to ingestion of something like chocolate or sugar or a diet pill?  Or due to something more chronic?

OT: dogs respire faster than humans.   A human breathing even 22 breaths per minute surely has high blood pressure.  Biofeedback studies show people should strive for no more than 10 breaths per minute when resting.

Let us know what your vet ultimately discovers.
