Greetings,

I have just been amazed! I have been under the impression that the black gene has been nearly bred out of showlines especially the dominant showlines. A breeder emailed me with pedigrees of her dogs that have produced solid blacks when bred to a solid black and to other showlines. I am very interested if there are any other showline breeders here that have experienced this and have actually produced some solid black puppies from 100% Showline breedings or predominantly showline breedings? I breed West German Showlines but my last two litters I have bred my girls to a solid black male who is predominantly DDR but has a some West German Showline blood and have not had any solid black puppies.

whats the name of this breeder?, i would love to see these black show lines, i have never seen a black show line before.
i know both parents need to  carry black gene to get , black pups.

You would need to take one of the offspring from one of your last 2 litters and breed that down the road to a black to get black.  If 1 is bl/red, other was black, pups will be bl/red with blk recessive.  Next generation bred to black would produce blacks.

Took me 2 gernerations to get them, and I don't have showlines.

Hiya
My boy only throws Blacks no matter what he is mated to. 3 litters, 27 all wee black puppies and all bred to showline bitches, one was a Quantum vom Arminius daughter.
I have been asking on another thread what are the chances of this happening and apparently its quite rare.
My dream is to get a solid good enough for the ring. Hmmm nice!

Quite a bit of difference in a dog that is descended from S/L breeding and one that actually goes in the ring for a rating, title and a breed survey.

Which are you asking about.

If I can I will get a picture of this black showline female, she actually once came first in a show and has always been quite well placed! Trouble is I do not know how to post a picture here...

I personally don't know of any 100% West german Showlines solid black dogs.
I know of breeders that claim to breed them but if you research pedigrees, you
will quickly see that they have working lines in them.
It would be a very cool thing but haven't seen it yet!
And also, just because a dog gets in a  show ring, doesn't make it a showline.
Once again,it goes back to breeding and pedigree.

Alzimm, I have a pup from a breeder who is making a very serious investment in both time and finances to reintroduce the black back into the S/L. The breeder is originally from Germany and has very good contacts there. If there was a top black S/L anywhere in the world, I'm pretty sure they would know of it.

The last contact I had, she felt her plan might take up to 10 years to show results. She is starting off with one of the top working "black" females to come out of Germany and has kept 3 females from a breeding to Arko Bujenter Land (sp), a S/L dog noted for exceptional conformation and also very good character. If the black comes back into S/L, it will be through the efforts of breeders like these. I just hope that they bring the working ability with them.

I for one would love to see the blacks back in the show ring. Here in Oz we did have some in the 1970's & 80's but  I have not seen one since then. I had a male during that time, (Kestlebrae Marcus, his pedigree is on the database)    he  only sired one litter for 4 beautiful black puppies. LOVE THE BLACKS. BRING THEM BACK.

I t is a serious investment in time and finances . I think it can be done . I have a hard time reading pedigrees But I remember reading a workingline  that was bred to showlines from arminius and wenerau .When I went back far enuf it went back to a working dog . I am having a bad day so I will try to back track myself tomorrow and see if I can find my data . I could really benifit from Hodie today .SIGH
