Someone has asked to lease my bitch. I have never considered this before. Advice? What terms ? I am not interested in any puppies from the litter.

Thanks

Unless it's a close friend, I wouldn't trust anyone with my dogs. In my opinion, wouldn't be worth the money. And ever if it was a close friend, I'd still think twice.

The bitch would be staying with me,and I would be whelping and raising the litter.I would never let one of my dogs out ofmy sight.

if you would be doing all the work ie whelping/raising the litter - then why lease your female?  Your female - you do all the work - your litter.  Doesn't make sense to me.  When I lease a female from someone else, I get the female, do the breeding, keep her the entire time (feeding, caring for, time), whelp the litter, raise the litter, sell the puppies - the female's owner doesn't "do" anything and gets 1/2 the litter in return for the lease.  The "deal" depends on what makes sense for you and for the person interested in leasing - your deal doesn't make any sense to me - if I owned a female and I did all the work with the litter, then I'd definately own the whole litter LOL - if the person wants to "lease" the female so they can get a pup from her, then they can buy one.....

I once contemplated leasing a bitch owned by a woman in New Mexico.  Because of the bloodlines, all she wanted from the deal was a bitch puppy.  My male's breeder  ( in Ohio) was going to be the one to whelp/raise the puppies and all she wanted was a bitch and male puppy.  She was to keep the proceeds  from the rest of the litter.  All I wanted was a puppy.   Everyone was happy with our little arrangement.  Unfortunately, the Fertility Gods were not smiling on us.

Do be sure to have any leasing agreement in writing and make sure that the agreement covers who is responsible for which expenses, who gets what, what happens if the breeding does not take, cover the need for any extraordinary medical intervention, who owns what, kennel name, any co-ownership, etc.  Dot all the i's and cross all the t's
