While in Utah we visited Bryce Canyon and were asked to leave because of their "no dogs" policy. I got some pics before we were booted. We left and went to Red Canyon, public land where we were able to roam free.
I also volunteered at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (Dogtown) and stayed there in one of the cabins. The sanctuary sits on a 33,000 acre parcel of land in beautiful Angel Canyon. The cemetery, Angels Rest, sits at the bottom of the canyon and is one of the most touching places I've seen. Wind chime stands are dotted througout and each wind chime holds a dedication plaque. Beautiful, touching place.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary:

These were young sisters who were also there to volunteer and did overnight visits with some of the dogs

A white GSD who has been returned three times because he's a "flight risk". One I couldn't understand, aren't they all?

So pretty, so sad. My son & daughter-in-law had a white GSD that showed up on their porch one day. They called him in to local authorities, & offered to foster him until his owner could be found. They gave him vet care, fed him & loved him. No one ever claimed him, so they adopted him. He was with them for almost a year, & they called him Jeep. One day he went outside with their dog & my daughter-in-law & took off again. They never found him, but Jeep may or may not have turned up 3 weeks later 60 miles away. A dog patrol picked a white GSD up. As they had reported Jeep missing, my son was called, & they left to go see if it was the same dog, but he got away again, before they got there to see if it was him. He was, apparently, headed west. I wonder........? jh

Jackie, this boy had a big chunck out of his left ear. He's a real sweetheart and they just love him to death. He's been there for quite some time and they think they'll have him as a permanent resident. They really do love these dogs, I've never me more dedicated people in my life. Also the cleanest kennel I've ever been in, NO ODOR.

Thanks for those photos. Without question, that corner of the world is my very favorite. We return there at least once and often twice, each summer. Love the "hoodoos" :)

some very lovely pix. and some melancholy pix too. i watch dogtown and they surely do have an angel or angels that watch over them. while it's a pity that all rescues don't have the same resources, it's wonderful that at least one place on earth does have those resources. lovely that you helped out-we should all take that lesson to heart. safe journey.

Beautiful pictures, but a wee bit sad reading the plaques. I did notice how content all the dogs look, and oh sooo clean kennels. You must be having a ball, wish i were there, wish i had the guts to do what you are doing. Ah well i'll stick with your photo journey. Stay safe, Liz.
