Couldn't get to the salt flats with Drake, I was told explicity "No dogs on or near the flats", so I only got these from the road...

Rhyolite, "ghost town", more like and artist's rendering of a ghost town...

Salt Creek, where I didn't stay long because huge bees were dive bombing!

The dunes...

Miscellaneous pics...

I went to the same place summer of 99 I was told my dog couldn't go on the salt flats either. I asked more questions and they said the salt flats are very sharp and that my dog would be in danger of getting cut and of course salt in a wound would be awful.. I am happy someone told you so your boy was safe.
Beautiful pictures, I have enjoyed your travel pics. Please keep them coming.
Be safe!

Fantastic photos again. I love the 6th photo down of the sand dunes. It looks like something out of a sci fi movie. Handsome Drake looks like King of the Castle on his mosiac chair. I love the shot of the "ghost". Thanks for sharing such amazing photos.

Not only are the salt flats very course & sharp, but some have a high alkali level, which can burn pads & leave them quite raw & painful. I loved Death Valley, we would always visit the date palm place for gifts to bring home. Is it still there? It was past the Dunes & the pump well..........if memory serves.
I wanna go back! jh
