Thermometer's? - Page 1

I live in in South Carolina, where the weather does hit well over 90-100. My wife and I are so used to the weather and now with Lump I will worry once we hit warmer weather. Currently I have an outdoor pen, where he goes for a few hours in the day while we are busy. He loves his outdoor area and loves being outdoors all together. I'd like it to have a thermometer/humidity which is set up with an alarm system to the house. If it hits a certain temperature or humidity it will set an alarm off in the house.

The facility where I got Lump had this set up on all of her kennels and dog areas both indoor and outdoor. Once it hit a certain temp. they would know to put the misting system or heat on for the dogs. Its was very neat to say the least. They built the system themselves from alarm system pieces and she said the price was about $150.00 per thermometer to run but felt it was a good investment. I'd much rather buy a pre assembled unit.

Do they offer such products for a single unit? I've tried to Google to see what I come up with and nothing much is coming up at least not what I have in my head.

Any idea's you might lend would awesome.

I found cheap misting systems through walmart and sams club incase anyone else is interested. Also, misting systems will cut back on bugs.

It might sound strange but call your heating and air conditioning company and talk to them. Maybe they can help.
I have a friend that just got some fancy new a/c and furnace system installed and their thermostat in the house has some kind of outdoor temperature remote sensor and a humidity control built in. The things got enough programming settings on it that you'd need a teenager to do it.

There is a custom van outfit (they specialize in dog sport outfitting) and they have a similar gadget ..... sorry can't remember their name but I believe they are in IL or IN..
How about the ones that K9 police vehicles are supposed to be outfitted with.. maybe you can contact your local K9 unit??

Keep in mimd that a misting system doesn't help much in humid climates where it just puts more humidity into the environment. For a misting system to be effective you need relatively dry air and air movement to cool the misted dogs. We live in Easter PA where it gets very humid in summer. We installed a misting system, purchased from a dog catalog and I can't remember which one, some years ago. It does very little on its own but does work  when we also put a powerful fan in the kennels. We've learned that the fan alone provides as much relief as does the fan plus misted air.
