In last week's sieger show 11 males were awarded VA out of 35 dogs for a percentage of  31%  In Germany last year there were 11 VA's out of 137 dogs for a percentage of approx 12% of males going VA.. Can someone please explain this?  I would be very interested in why this is so.

I observed that as well.
And all of them were sch3 that was also something I didn't understand, I know they have the highest titles, but
am confused on if this is what is normal practice? Sch2 dogs are not allowed to be in the group of sch3?

A dog with a Sch2 can go VA but cannot repeat and get a second VA without a three. Still doesn't explain the percentage difference of VA's awarded here vs. Germany.

If VA's were awarded on the same criteria as in Germany we would hve VERY few, further diminishing diversity in the gene pool. In addition, people would be disinclined to show a solid V rated dog with the expectation that he might only receive another V.
I believe that the field SHOULD be winnowed somewhat to render the USA VA title more meaningful, especially since we also have the NASS, so we now have DOZENS of middle V dogs with multiple VA's.
SOME of the same concepts DO apply in the judgeing. For example, the judges will NOT award a VA to a dog that does not meet a standard of conformity and excellence, although they might define that standard with consideration to the size and quality of the class.
In the early years of the USA Sieger show we had only a few VA's, as numbers and quality were not nearly what they are today. One major function of these shows is to coax the American breed foreward. Perhaps the day will come when we ARE on a par with the secondary European countries. It is out of the question that we would ever equal Germany in quality and numbers. Jonah

I thought I didn't know what the guideline was, good, that is good rule.
Yes, I don't know why the percentage is different either, someone else pointed that out to me
before you asking as well, don't know??
