I have recently moved to Florida and am trying to buy a house. I am in the process of relocating my GSD from the Caribbean to Florida. Unfortunately, when I tried to get the hazard insurance required to get a loan to buy my home, I was told that GSD's were on the insurers blacklist of dogs.
Can anyone give advice on which company provides hazard insurance that covers GSD's in South Florida?

I'm so sorry you're having this problem; I hope someone from FL can answer your question. In the meantime, this link says that each state has a state insurance office that can provide you with all the insurance companies doing business in your state and you can go through that list. Hopefully you won't have to do that.

Just this w/e I found out about this insurance issue. I stopped by a friend's farm and during conversation she said that she almost got a GSD puppy. Another woman there said, how could you? I wanted to get one and I couldn't find any insurance company that would allow me to get one. She listed about 10 companies, all the big, well-known names, and told me each one said that if you own a GSD, they will not insure you or will drop your insurance if they find out that you have one. It could be 12yo and toothless - it doesn't matter.
Good luck!

I know USSA will issue a policy if you have a GSD, but you need to have been in the military to be able to get insurance with them. Wow, I was not aware that this was an issue. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

I thank God that I live in Canada, where my insurance company actually considers my GSD's as assets, and lists them under 'security systems'!
You should move north...

The only one I know of that will insure with GSD's is Farmer's Insurance. And you can't have more than 4 dogs. Other companies just exclude dog bites period. As most large ins. companies no longer do business here in the state, most people around here have Citizens which is the state insurance company. I know alot of people say they have alsatians to get by the GSD rule. It's a huge PITA. Even more nerve wracking when ins. companies constantly close up shop here and you have to find a new company every couple of years. They say it's because of hurricanes, yet we haven't had one in years now but they use the same excuse.
Good luck!
