Hi,
In the last thirty days or so I have been searching for a male puppy from or near Berlin age to be 8-10 weeks by 6/6/2009. I am really confused by the prices I got from German breeders. The price ranged from Euro 500 upto 1500, and that is incredible, imagine some breeders asking three times the price of other breeders. I think many people can not afford even Euro 500 to own a quality puppy especially in countries other than Europe and U.S.
Is it really fair to ask for Euro 1500 for a puppy whoever the parents of that puppy are?
What do you think should be a fair price of a puppy to both the breeder and the assumed owner?
Regards

There is no such thing as a "fair price" for puppies - breeders will charge whatever amount customers are willing to pay. Prices for puppies can range from $50 for a BYB GSD to $5,000+ for an show line puppy out of a prestigious kennel. Breeders will argue that their puppies are "worth the price" but that is moot - they find people willing and able to pay that kind of money and so they sell their puppies.
If you are shopping for a puppy in Germany then you are fortunate because there are so many clubs and breeders in such a relatively small country. Here in the US it is very difficult to travel the long distances that would be required to visit a lot of breeders to compare. Possible, yes, but expensive and time-consuming.
It is unfortunate that quality puppies are priced so high, but this is free market system and there are no price controls, and I can't image that there ever will be. Good luck in your search. I hope you find the right dog for your needs at a price that you can afford!
