Not the most earth-shattering news... but... I am very happy that I found some good dog treats for training, "Zuke's Minis".

Couple reasons to love them... they are the perfect size, pellets about the size of a large pencil eraser.  No more slicing hot dogs or chopping up Bil-Jac.  They are also healthy for the dogs... something I've always hated about using hot dogs (high in fat, salt, nitrates, etc.)  They are also made in the USA so I don't have to worry about Chinese food additive crap.  They don't make a mess in your pocket/treat pouch either.

Expensive in the pet store, very affordable when buying in bulk on-line.  Gotta luv shopping on the Internet!

If you have a picky dog without a lot of food drive, this stuff works.  We switched our dogs to a raw diet so the usual "treats" don't get them excited anymore.  LOL

I've used the Zuke's peanut butter ones for baiting tracks. They are great for two reasons, they don't have a lot of smell to them, AND the ants don't like the peanut butter ones. Other than slim jims, and microwaving the heck out of hot dogs, I haven't found too many things to use on the track that the ants find distasteful.

Yuck, you can't put them in your mouth?? Well, maybe you can but I couldn't.. I do use hot dogs, smoked sausage, sring cheese or cubed cheese, cheese balls and yes, I cook pork loin by the bucket load.. can usually get it on sale for 1.99/lb or at Sam's its usually around 1.68 and can be found in gigantic sizes.....

My dogs are raw fed but still enjoy anything they get..... and as for worrying about what's in a hot dog, well I don't suppose you've ever caught your dog licking its own behind or other nether parts or how about that raid on the real gourmet delectables found in the litter pan?? Or what about what the bunnies leave behind?? LOL, I don't worry about hot dogs...

I think this is Yvette, I totally enjoy your articles and humor so thought I'd try a little of my own......

Glad you found treats you can deal with.... but seriously, I always have a mouthful of something and it has to be something I can bear the texture of !!

Have a great day!

I am always looking for new rewards...

I looked at these on internet - is16 oz the largest bag you can get?  seems kinda pricey at 10.00+ for a1 lb. bag.

Oh, I forgot BilJac makes the liver treats inlittle cartons, looks like the milk we used to get in school.... I used to cut those but now they make LilJacs and they are much smaller.. no need to cut for tracking and the GA fire ants don't seem to care for them.. we have run tests here....yup, we do food testing
Freeze dried liver works pretty well for tracking most of the time ... but some ants do seem to enjoy it....

Hubby found them on the Internet - I can't remember which site - he just googled it.  We got them for about $6/lb but we had to buy at least a dozen bags to get that "bulk discount" price.  Not a problem... we've got two dogs to train so we stocked up.

In the local pet store they were about $4 for a little bag, maybe 6 oz.  BIG price savings for buying bulk.

I used to use the BilJac liver treats but I had to chop them up and they would crumble in my pockets.  Messy messy...

I  use Zuke's mini naturals too-  The only thing is, make sure you close the bag all the way.  They can get stale and turn in  to BBs.  I have found strays in my cup holder of my car, pants pockets, bottom of my purse and they really do solidify when they dry out.
