has anyone ever used "stacking blocks" as an aid to train their dogs to stack?
did they help?
where did you find them, or did you make them?

I dont think i would be willing to pay that much to make my dog pose:)

That is hysterical. I have rarely seen such a ridiculous sight, but I guess it would work. I suggest scrap lumber. Jonah

I have a client who used them years ago for Smooth Fox Terriers.  IMO if the dog is to ____ (fill in the blank) to learn how to stack on their own then don't show them but others are more "dedicated" to showing then I'll ever be so to each his own....

A trainer at a show suggested that I use them because I'm really bad at stacking. If they are set per each dog. Then I can prepare the dogs for the handler........I can make a set for a whole lot less then what they're asking........just wondered if anyone had used them and if they worked.

I can have a handler stack the dogs and i can place mark circles around the paws.

Its not the dog that is too stupid, its my inexperience that I'm trying to make up for.

I've seen them used alot for toy breeds.

are you trying to learn where their feet go personally? or trying to teach the dog where its feet go?  If you are wanting to use them as a template of sorts to teach yourself the proper way to stack, then go for it.  but I don't see it working to well to teach the dog where its own feet go for the stack.  that should be started as a very young pup, and practiced on like anything else.  start with pups as soon as they are getting around, put them in a stack and say stand, practice daily.  at least thats what the AKC people always told me how to do it with show puppies.

I'm a novice as well.  I'm personaly more of a do it the good old fashioned hard way type of person so using "aids" would propably mess me us more then help me out.  A while ago I was looking at Am showline peds on here and for the ped pic they showed their bitch balenced on the blocks. If I can retrace my steps of random pedigree research and find it I'll post.

Soup cans with non-slip stuff on them is a heck of a lot cheaper ;-)
